About this property

Grosmont 1.5 miles. This lovely end-terrace cottage is nestled in the beautiful Esk Valley and surrounded by delightful scenery within the North York Moors National Park. This is a superb base whether you love to walk, tour, cycle or just to relax within this tranquil setting. The cottage has a lovely bright and spacious dining kitchen with a comfy sofa which is the perfect spot for keeping the cook company. The sitting room offers views of the valley together with the comforting glow of a real fire, and there is a firm, original 1930 horsehair sofa in this room. Upstairs there are two double bedrooms together with a family bathroom and a ground floor cloakroom. Outside the cottage is a garden where you can relax with a refreshing drink whilst enjoying the quietness of the countryside. The cottage is the perfect spot for trainspotting and the sight and sound of a steam train approaching is very emotive; a great thrill for every age. The local village of Grosmont was once a hive of industry due to the discovery of ironstone in 1836 and the cottage was built for a miner and his family. Nowadays, this traditional village is busy with tourists catching a glimpse of one of the nostalgic steam trains on the popular heritage North Yorkshire Moors Railway which featured in the Harry Potter films. Whitby is a mere nine miles away and offers the delights of a seaside town from building sandcastles, climbing the 199 steps to its Abbey and partaking of the great British tradition of fish and chips. A lovely holiday cottage in a fabulous area.

The pretty village of Grosmont sits at the junction of the River Esk and Murk Esk in the midst of striking Moors scenery. The area is characterised by its narrow roads, steep hills and scenic views over valleys of patchwork fields and wide open expanses of moorland. Grosmont itself lies in the centre of ‘Heartbeat Country’ and is famous for being the home of the North York Moors Steam Railway. The Railway has been preserved and run by enthusiasts since 1973 and today carries upwards of 300,000 passengers a year. The village has a general store, post office, book shop, cafes and a pub.
