About this property

Goathland 1 mile. This exquisite, detached stone cottage sits on the centuries old village green in the tiny hamlet of Beck Hole, just a mile from the pretty village of Goathland in the North York Moors National Park. Beck Hole is known as one of the most picturesque and idyllic hamlets in the whole of North Yorkshire. It is situated in a wooded valley famous for its wild flowers and stunning scenery. Named Quoits Cottage after the traditional game that is still played on the village green during the summer months, this quintessentially English property is ideally placed for exploring the spectacular surrounding scenery and the dramatic coastline of this superb area. Deceptively spacious, with much charm and character, there is a generously-sized sitting room with French doors that can be thrown open wide in warmer weather, and a cosy woodburning stove to gather around on cooler evenings. The separate dining room has the original stone and cast iron fireplace, now for aesthetic purposes only, and both rooms boast oak flooring and beamed ceilings. Upstairs are two delightful bedrooms with painted timber floors, sloping ceilings and sumptuous beds with quality Egyptian cotton bedding to sink into. The family bathroom has luxurious Fired Earth marble tiles. The well-equipped kitchen leads into the rear terraced rockery garden with a small seating area on the top terrace, a very sheltered and private spot to sit and relax and enjoy the sunshine. Warm and inviting throughout, this exceptional cottage is beautifully and tastefully furnished to the highest of standards, ensuring guests have a wonderful and comfortable stay. Beck Hole is set within a deep tree-clad valley, with a few dwellings clustered around the village green and a small local inn of immense character serving real ales. The area is a walker’s haven, with an excellent network of public footpaths shared by sheep that are free to wander the lanes and moorland. Enjoy a walk to nearby Goathland, with the Mallyan Spout waterfall and the North York Moors Steam Railway, explore the woods or follow the beck as it winds its way through the valley to the next village of Grosmont. A few minutes’ drive brings you to the historic seaside port of Whitby and its long sandy beaches, narrow cobbled streets and majestic Abbey perched high on the clifftop, reached by 199 ancient steps. With quaint tea rooms, independent shops and a rich array of restaurants, cafes and renowned fish and chips, it offers something for everyone! This superb cottage is surrounded by scenic beauty and sure to delight the most discerning guest.

The village of Goathland is set on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. It has been popularised by the television programme Heartbeat and at the bottom of the village lies the station for the famous North York Moors Steam Railway.

There was a lovely welcome pack on arrival, plus a delicious cake. The only two slightly negatives were the king sized bed was uncomfortable (far too soft), and the house holder next door playing very loud music on the Sunday and Wednesday morning at 05:45, which I was forced to message the owner about.

We found a fridge full of sandwiches and fabulous huge jam and cream scones...so nice...a very tasty carrot cake and a basket full of other goodies, never had this much before, ever. The cottage was very clean, especially the oven and the bed was very soft and cosy, hard to get out in a morning. Our issue was not enough lighting in the living room if you wanted to read, dismal in the dinning room for eating. So oldi worldi ...

The cottage has been kept to a very high standard by the owner, always exceptionally clean on arrival and is located in a beautiful area of the Yorkshire Moors.
