    About this property

Quietly situated looking down the village green, in the charming village of Sinnington, these cosy stone-built, semi-detached cottages provide a perfect base for a relaxing holiday. The ground floor interconnecting door gives the opportunity to book the cottages separately or together for larger families. Picturesque and quintessentially English, the village has a pretty stream running through it, a micro bakery and a renowned traditional inn. From the doorstep there are numerous walking and cycling trails leading up into the North York Moors. A well-stocked farm shop selling local produce can be found in Beadlam, where visitors can enjoy home cooking in the granary tearoom, and nearby Helmsley and Kirkbymoorside are home to numerous interesting shops, pubs and restaurants. Visit Pickering, a bustling market town with a medieval castle and the famous North York Moors steam train, explore the abbey ruins at Rievaulx and the stately homes at Nunnington and Castle Howard. The Go Ape Adventure Centre in Dalby Forest and Flamingo Land are popular with families, and there are miles of sandy beaches at the seaside resorts of Scarborough, Whitby and Filey, all within an hour’s drive. Shop 3 miles, pub/restaurant 350 yards.
The Cottage can be booked together with Lilac Cottage (UK2131) to accommodate up to ten guests.

"Lovely location in sinnington. Good walks from cottages. Sadly cottage cold on arrival as heaters all switched off. Also a crack on loo seat..but cottage overall comfortable. Local pub excellent food and friendly."

"Lilac cottage is a gem of a place, quaint and comfortable, all three of us loved it, especially my dad. The location is lovely too, a pretty village with a great pub,The Fox and Hounds, the food there was delicious and the staff really friendly. Lots to do in the area too, with the North York Moors Railway at the top of the list. We would definitely stay at Lilac cottage again & will be recommending it to friends and family."

"Fabulous few days away. Only negative would be that property was advertised has having WiFi. Due to having a 17 year old this helped in choosing the property, however there is no WiFi at the property."

"The cottage needs to have the recycling details updatedA few hooks on bedroom and bathroom doors would be useful"

"I had a very enjoyable stay in Lilac Cottage. It was clean, comfortable and in a great location."

"Lovely well appointed cottage in beautiful location. Visit coincided with first cold snap of the winter so took a while to get the cottage up to temperature with storage heaters but not a major issue with the log burner. Dogs loved it and locals friendly so we'll be back!!"

"We loved Lilac Cottage the only worry was the adjoining cottage,ok if you were sharing both cottages with family, but I found I was worried about making too much noise as I could hear voices from next door quite clearly from the living room.Fortunately our 'neighbours' were only there 3 days and the rest of the week we had no worries. This is probabably just me being a bit paranoid about noise!Perhaps a more substantial adjoining door is the answer.Otherwise everything was almost perfect."

"Lovely holiday cottage in beautiful Sinnington which also has a lovely pub with great food, especially the Sunday Roast. The only slight negative is the shared garden at the front but I knew that when I booked"

"First impression of village was lovely but very quiet indeed we never saw anyone walking around. It did have a pub which served meals but again very quiet. There was no village shop and you had to drive two miles to get milk, papers, etc. Perhaps most of the houses are holiday homes and we went at a quiet time in late September. The cottage itself was comfortable and clean with a nice garden only problem was that several light bulbs had blown and no replacements available. Although we had been told about the recycling of rubbish there was only one bin so we had to bring our rubbish home."

"We had a very enjoyable week at Lilac Cottage and would recommend it. The location was nice and quiet but not too far from places we wanted to visit. It was extremely clean and well presented. Our only issue is that on the paperwork we were asked to re-cycle rubbish but could not find the correct bins. The general waste bin was full so had to leave rubbish by the bin and brought some home."

"Lilac Cottage was situated in the most picturesque village of Sinnington just off the village green, which had a stream running along-side. Approaching the village over the hump-backed stone bridge and seeing this very beautiful view unfold before your eyes was a breath-taking positive start to the holiday. Inside, the cottage was clean, cosy and comfortable with a shared garden. The Fox and Hounds pub on the high street was outstanding for food and a quiz and for the helpfulness of their staff. We found it a good centre point for exploring north and south and most of all for the steam railway that was one of our must do holiday excursions. The only down-side was the lack of kitchen necessities like a bowl for the sink, a decent knife and where to put the rubbish."
    Gillian
"A lovely comfortable cottage in a very pretty village with easy access to a range of attractions. The only improvements we can think of are marking the step on the landing and a dishwasher."

"Lovely, cosy cottage in a beautiful, very quiet village, loads of good walks from the property, an easy stroll to the local pub which is dog friendly and does great food.Great location nearby the road to Pickering or Helmsley but no traffic noise at all.The owners were really helpful when we contacted them about missing to remote and in a short space of time a neighbour came round with a spare one and problem was resolved.Definitely recommend the property and would stay here again without hesitation."

"Lovely village and cottage is well furnished. Lacking some equipment - bread bin, oven gloves, dishcloth & cleaning cloths i.e. jaycloth and the initial supply of logs was 1! The log burner ash pan was full and the refuse bin was brimming over until collection middle of the week. Had to use the recycling bins from next door. The fridge and freezer was turned off which was difficult since I arrived with frozen food. Potential of the cottage is good but needs to be a little more visitor friendly."
    Judith
"Cottage is just ok . It smells of cats especially in the hallway. Maybe the cottage has been flooded at some point and damp or something has remained. The fact every thing is switched off means you arrive to no hot water, a less than cool fridge and storage heaters that are not especially controllable."
