About this property

Ravensworth 0.5 miles. This impressive conversion of an old stone mill is situated in an elevated position amidst beautiful countryside, on the outskirts of the pretty village of Ravensworth, near the historic market town of Richmond. In a courtyard setting with three other properties, Castle Mill has been beautifully and luxuriously restored to the highest of standards, with glorious views overlooking castle ruins. On the ground floor, the spacious bespoke kitchen has granite worktops, a dual fuel range cooker and an island breakfast bar. With extra comfy seating, a dining area to one side and patio doors opening onto the garden, the room offers a lovely sociable space for families to gather and enjoy a communal meal. Set into the floor, under a glass tile, lies part of the original mill race; a really interesting feature. This lovely property has the benefit of two generous and light-filled sitting rooms, both with a warming woodburner and sumptuous sofas. The ground floor sitting room has an exposed stone wall with an original archway and views onto the sheltered courtyard, whilst the first floor room affords fine views up the dale. The whole of the ground floor is fully tiled with natural stone, with underfloor heating and a useful utility/boot room. From the large hallway, oak stairs lead up to an elegant glass balustrade landing. The six bedrooms are spread over the three floors, including one with an en-suite, one with access to the decked patio and many with their own TV; ensuring flexible sleeping accommodation to suit all needs. With a contemporary feel throughout, there are excellent amenities at the cottage, including quality appliances, super-fast broadband and ample parking at the front of the property, which is fully enclosed. A pleasant walk brings you to two village inns, with traditional ales and good food, whist the immediate area offers wonderful walks and cycling straight from the door. The picturesque market towns of Richmond and Barnard Castle lie close by and have a wide variety of cafes, restaurants and independent shops, with weekly markets held in the cobbled squares. This spectacular area is the gateway to the Dales, with many activities to enjoy, including fell walking, touring, riverside strolls or visiting museums, waterfalls and pretty Dales villages. A stunning holiday home for a wonderful family break.

The pretty little village of Ravensworth lies just to the north of Richmond in a minor tributary of the River Swale. Made up of weathered sandstone cottages with their unusual 'Yorkshire' roofs - a mix of soft red pantiles and slate - the village is centred around a wide, picturesque village green. At one end of the green the popular Bay Horse Inn serves good food and drink. Pretty footpaths run from Ravensworth through the surrounding villages allowing visitors to enjoy many circular walks. Close by are the popular Swaledale market town of Richmond and the Teesdale market town of Barnard Castle both of which offer a wide range of amenities and shops.
