About this property

A traditional stone-built terraced cottage situated in the picturesque village of Langthwaite, three miles from Reeth in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Full of charm, this cottage has been tastefully renovated throughout, retaining original features such as the characterful beams. Set over two floors, the cottage offers a luxurious bedroom on the first floor with en-suite facilities and a king-size bed, perfect for a romantic getaway. The stunning living room on the ground floor is the main attraction, complete with a woodburning stove to snuggle up in front of in the colder months. This room also opens out onto the fabulous rear patio overlooking the river, the perfect place to sit and enjoy a glass of something cold on a warm summer’s evening. For romantic dinners in, the cottage has a well-equipped kitchen. Langthwaite is famous for being the shooting location for many scenes in the television 'All Creatures Great and Small' and after seeing the hamlet and its surrounding countryside it becomes instantly clear why they chose to film in this beautiful area. There are two pubs within walking distance of the cottage, visit the Red Lion next door or why not take a gentle stroll to the CB Inn, both serving delicious food and local ales. For local amenities, the picturesque village of Reeth is only three miles away, whilst further afield the popular Yorkshire market towns of Richmond and Barnard Castle are easily reached from this delightful Langthwaite cottage. An ideal base to enjoy the best the Yorkshire Dales has to offer.

The village of Langthwaite in Arkengarthdale is situated in the heart of TV’s “James Herriot Country” and is surrounded by spectacular countryside. Langthwaite offers a pub and just outside the village is another inn which offers food of a high standard. Close by is the village of Reeth, whilst within reach are the towns of Richmond and Barnard Castle.

    1. No welcome pack, not even a packet of biscuits, milk etc. The first time in over 25 years of staying in holiday cottages that I have not had a welcome pack. 2. No information on where the rubbish bins were and what day the bins were emptied. 3. No information on where the log store was. Checked with a neighbour who showed me where the log store was but this was padlocked and no key was available in the cottage so we had to buy our own fire lighters, kindling and logs as there was only a small basket of logs available in the cottage, an expense we had not catered for. Your description clearly states all fuel for the stove is included in the rent, this is not the case. 4. One of the storage heaters in the living room did not work so it was chilly in the evenings if the fire wasn’t used. 5. Not one empty kitchen cupboard available for us to use so had to pile all our dry goods on the kitchen windowsill. 6. No storage in the bedroom as the wardrobe drawer, the wardrobe itself and under the bed was crammed full of bedding and towels. Again we had to pile jumpers on the windowsill as there were only tiny drawers available to use in the bedside cabinets and the chest of drawers. 7. No where available to store our two suitcases so we had to scrabble about under the bed (which was filthy) trying to move everything around so we could at least get one case under there. We then had to keep moving the other case around the bedroom as the bedroom is small. 8. I was informed by the owner that there was no hairdryer or iron - a 5 star property without the basics? 9. The patio area was ankle deep in leaves and clearly had not been swept in weeks. The patio furniture was also dirty and I had to wipe all this down and get rid of all the leaves before we could use anything outside. Surely the cleaners should sweep the patio and wipe the furniture down? 10. The settee in the living room was very low and there was a metal bar that stuck in you when you sat down. I know it was a bed settee but surely it would be better to buy a quality settee for a 5 star property. We enjoyed our week but the above issues did take the edge off the cottage. As I say definitely not worthy of 5 stars, we have stayed in far better properties that you have given 3 and 4 stars for.

Very attractive south facing terrace by the river and the fabulous Red Lion immediately adjacent. What more could you want?
