About this property

A traditional terraced cottage situated in the centre of the ever popular village of Aysgarth in beautiful Wensleydale. The cottage is full of character and charm, with old beams and the original stone flooring making it a perfect romantic retreat within the Yorkshire Dales National Park. A spacious, attractive and comfortable sitting room welcomes visitors with a lovely feature stone fireplace with an open fire, and the room boasts a bright and cheery feel to the interior. The sitting room leads through to a shaker-style kitchen with a dining area with plenty of work space to prepare evening meals. A small porch leads out onto a private rear garden, ideal for sitting out on a summer’s evening and enjoying a glass of your favourite wine. The spacious bedroom features a romantic wrought iron king-size bed and the large attached bathroom provides a luxurious corner bath and separate shower unit. This is a great base to explore this fascinating area, with Hawes and Bainbridge just a short drive and some of the most beautiful scenery in the Dales right on the doorstep. The cottage is an excellent base for walking and the nearby Aysgarth Falls are formed with a triple flight of waterfalls over a mile on the River Ure. Tourists are drawn to the falls, which have been the subject of works by famous artists in the 19th century, including Ruskin, Turner and Wordsworth. The upper falls also featured in the movie, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. This wonderful cottage is not to be missed.

Situated in excellent walking country is the idyllic Wensleydale village of Aysgarth, close to the well-known Aysgarth Falls and impressive Bolton Castle - a structure which dates back to 1379. For over 200 years, people have been flocking to see the beautiful falls - including Ruskin, Turner and Wordsworth. However, during the 19th Century, Aysgarth became a staging post for travellers to make their way down to view the falls from the bridge. In more recent years, the Upper Falls were used in the film 'Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves.' The ancient art of coppicing is still carried out in nearby Freeholder's Wood and visitors can find hazel, ash and wild cherry trees amongst others. Carpeted in wildflowers in spring, this stunning woodland is home to over one 120 species. Nearby, Wensleydale and Swaledale provide a range of activities and amenities and are well worth visiting.
