The Shippon is a clean, cosy, characterful, well-equipped cottage with a parking space and a small outdoor area in a beautiful little village with a lovely cafe/deli, small shop, weekly fish & chip van, several pubs and a bus service. We appreciated the cake and milk we found on arrival and also the walks information, maps etc. There are lots of lovely walks from the door and the village is in an excellent location for touring around the Dales and further afield.

We had a brilliant holiday in The Shippon, but this was made most special by the landscape of Wensleydale and Swaledale. Although we are in our late 70s, we did several long walks (5 miles x 3) and lots of other exploring as well - favourites - walking up the Swale in Muker meadows, driving over the moors to Swaledale and stopping at the top for a picnic lunch! We are not bird experts, but were thrilled with how many moorland birds we saw on those two drives over to Swaledale. We loved all the spring wild flowers too - so many primrose banks and the first openings of the bluebell woods. Other highlights - Aysgarth Falls, Asghill force, Castle Bolton, cheese demonstration in Hawes. Enjoyed dinner out at The King’s Arms, AAskrigg ad Wensleydale Heifer in West Witton.
