About this property

A wing of the owner's farmhouse on a smallholding for retired racehorses, in the pretty village of Thornton Watlass, 4 miles from Masham. This delightful Masham cottage, a short stroll from Thornton Watlass' village green and popular village pub, has been carefully renovated to offer comfortable accommodation in a charming location. Set out in an open plan style, with contemporary furnishings, this Masham cottage has a modern bathroom, two lovely bedrooms and a spacious living area with doors to a small patio area. From the garden of this Masham cottage, guests can enjoy views of the Hambleton Hills and gaze across the owner's grounds to the old racehorses enjoying their well-earned retirement. This is a perfect location to enjoy rural life, with walks and bridleways directly from the doorstep, Fountains Abbey nearby, and a little further afield, Studley Royal Water Gardens. A lovely Masham cottage in an ideal location for a varied and enjoyable holiday, at any time of year.

The village of Thornton Watlass lies north of Masham at the entrance to Wensleydale and the glorious Yorkshire Dales National Park. At the centre of the village is the village green, with its trees, cricket pitch and children's playground, surrounded by houses. Thornton Watlass Church dates from the 11th century and the village also has a public house called the Buck Inn. The nearby town of Masham is situated alongside the River Ure and boasts a market square, where a Wednesday market has been joined by a popular Saturday market. There are lots of walks around the area, including a 10 mile walk along the Ure, arguably one of the best in the UK. The town boasts a range of crafts, galleries, shops, restaurants and pubs, and is the home to the Black Sheep Brewery, which brews 11 million pints of beer a year! The popular towns of Ripon and Harrogate are an easy drive away.
