About this property

Built in 1742, May Cottage is a mid-terrace, Grade II listed cottage located in the village of Stillington, boasting a lovely blend of modernised charm to ensure guests feel truly relaxed and right at home. Ideal for couples or a small family, this retreat makes a wonderful social base, with plenty of room for everyone to unwind in style. The lounge welcomes you at the entrance, boasting a solid fuel stove and exposed ceiling beams that add a glimpse of character. There is a traditional feel to the room which creates a cosy ambience for a snug night in with your loved ones. The kitchen is designed with granite counter tops, and holds all of those essentials that you may need during your stay. This continues to a light and conservatory style room with seating for four people and all-round windows that invite natural scenery inside. To access the first floor bedrooms and classic wet room, take the stairs which are tucked away into the lounge, a characterful addition to the property. The double bedroom is elevated by a pleasant, white finish, matched with bedside tables compliments the lovely interior. The single bedroom is a little more compact, yet equally as impressive with views reaching out towards the fields in the distance. For more of this, a network of footpaths and bridleways lead from the village to the beautiful surrounding countryside of the Howardian Hills, where you can take a leisurely stroll in your own time. The Georgian town of Easingwold is 4 miles distant with, Thirsk, Ripon, Harrogate, York, Malton and Helmsley. Further afield are the seaside resorts of Scarborough, Whitby and Bridlington. Flamingo Land Theme Park is 20 miles away. A delightful cottage to be enjoyed all-year-round.

Both Pubs are walking distance, also shop/post office . The settee and chair in sitting room is very uncomfortable and dirty and smelly. .extra cushions taped up with duct tape and several kitchen chair cushions had been placed under cushions on settee for some reason? This didnt help , the seat cushions sloped !.. No games room as listed ?. Tiny freezer more like an ice box , very small fridge, only 2 shelves . Very disappointed with this as we "self cater" due to my gluten intolerance, so we had brought all my food ,no room in freezer or fridge for it all due to the very small size meaning a lot of it wasted . A tip for future, please put that these are small in write up ..i contacted owner before our stay after reading the previous comments on furniture. He reassured me he had chosen the furniture for its comfort! He suggested there was a directors chair in bedroom if we needed to use it. This was canvas so didn't use it as very uncomfortable for relaxing watching tv .Sykes rate this cottage 4 ticks , as other people have previously mentioned the uncomfortable sitting room furniture which it is is desperately in need of being replaced, why is it still 4 ticks ? According to Sykes 4 ticks , this means excellent standard throughout which it clearly isn't. You ask for feedback? , surely this is to maintain the standards? It would seem they are not being maintained . As long standing clients we would welcome your comments Sykes on our feedback. Thank you .

We had nothing to worry about. The cottage was clean and tidy with pizza in the freeze if we needed it (we didn't as it happened but a very nice touch!). It had everything we needed in the kitchen to survive. The bed was comfy! It certainly didnt need decontamination. Would also recommend The Bay Tree for food and drink (and dog friendly too). If we are looking to stop near York again we will definitely look to see if this is available. Thank you Bob!
