About this property

This delightful detached period cottage is peacefully set in the small village of Dalton, just five miles from the popular market town of Thirsk. Warm and welcoming, the cottage provides an excellent base for those wishing to explore both the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors, with easy access to the East Coast seaside resorts of Scarborough and Whitby. Offering traditional and comfortable accommodation, there is a spacious beamed sitting room, with a decorative feature fireplace and French doors opening onto the garden. The modern kitchen opens onto the separate dining room, from which stairs lead up to the three bedrooms. Outside the property is a secluded and enclosed, pretty rear garden, the perfect place for relaxing in the sunshine with a morning coffee before heading off for the day. The cottage lies next to a bridle path, where walks can be taken around the village, while the local shop and pub are within just a five-minute stroll. The cottage is near to where the programme 'The Yorkshire Vet' is based which is at the original James Herriot practice. The historic town of Thirsk has a wide range of amenities, with a cobbled market square, excellent pubs and eateries and the renowned James Herriot Museum. The area is ideal for walking and cycling, with a network of public footpaths and trails to follow, while Ripon, York and Harrogate are within very easy reach. Enjoy a day out at Fountains Abbey or Newby Hall or spend a day at the races in Thirsk. A lovely drive up Sutton Bank takes you to pretty Helmsley and into the North York Moors National Park, whilst a little further will bring you to the dramatic Yorkshire coastline. A well-placed cottage for an interesting and varied holiday.

Dalton is a pretty, tranquil village situated seven miles north of Richmond in North Yorkshire, perfectly nestled between the two national parks of the Yorkshire Dales and the Yorkshire Moors. Visit the many nearby market towns of Richmond and Barnard Castle, both boasting delightful collections of shops and pubs. Dalton is a wonderful base for exploring North Yorkshire, all year round.

Ideally located to explore North Yorkshire would recommend.

Just perfect to explore the local area and easy access to York. Highly recommend.

She said it would come on at 5pm & was not happy when we asked her to put heating on. At 9pm she knocked on the door to ask us to turn some lights off. These restrictions were not mentioned when we booked the cottage. We have never rented a cottage with these restrictions and we certainly wouldn't recommend Dalton Cottage or rent it in the future.
