About this property

This is a cosy, stone-built, mid-terraced cottage located in the small hamlet of Ickornshaw, on the outskirts of Cowling, just seven miles from Skipton and eight miles from Haworth. The accommodation is a nice combination of the old and the new and provides an ideal retreat to relax and get away from it all. Set over three floors, the cottage has been renovated to a high standard and provides unusual accommodation for a couple, making it an ideal holiday home for a romantic break in this countryside location. Boasting lots of character and charm throughout, it features a spacious, lower ground floor kitchen/diner with old beams and very attractive exposed stone walls, with access out to a seating and brookside picnic area. The ground floor, accessed from the street, features a lovely sitting room with a cosy woodburning stove and a lovely mix of contemporary styling and comfortable furnishings. A first floor bedroom offers a double bed and the sitting room also includes a double sofa bed, providing some flexibility for the sleeping arrangements. A small but well-appointed bathroom adjoins the double bedroom. Outside there is a seating and picnic area with a babbling brook running through, where you can enjoy a peaceful evening drink after a busy day. A short walk takes you into the village of Cowling, where a local pub and a good eatery are well worth a visit. For the more energetic, the bike riding and walking opportunities to be found in the surrounding area are fantastic, with the Pennine Way running right past the cottage. Nearby is Skipton, known as 'The Gateway to the Dales', a lovely old market town, boasting an ancient castle, a beautiful old parish church and a colourful market occupying the cobbled setts each side of the high street. In 2008 the Academy of Urbanism voted Skipton High Street the best shopping spot in Britain, and The Copper Dragon Brewery is highly rated in the CAMRA listings. With the many delights of Grassington, Malham, Bolton Abbey and more all within easy reach, this is an ideal base to explore this ever popular area.

The ancient village of Cowling sits across a hillside in the Pennine Hills, just seven miles from the market town of Skipton. A thriving village, built along a main high street with stone-built, terraced houses set alongside the mills of a bygone age. The village was once sparsely populated, the bulk of the population living in Ickornshaw and Middleton, and before that on Cowling Hill, close to water sources they depended on, and the main roads of the day - now used as back roads by locals to avoid the modern day traffic.
