    About this property

Holmfirth 4.8 miles. This delightful cottage is beautifully presented and is situated off a private drive in the small village of Upper Cumberworth, under five miles from Holmfirth and six miles from the Peak District National Park. Superbly appointed throughout and providing charming accommodation, Lewis Cottage is just the spot for couples looking for a peaceful rural base, being very close to the Peak District National Park and set in the hills of the scenic West Yorkshire countryside. The cottage boasts beams throughout and has been sympathetically renovated to a very high standard to provide a romantic retreat, perfect for couples wishing to spend some quality time together. The first floor comprises of a bedroom with a large exposed roof truss, a comfortable brass bed, overlooking the peaceful garden. Upstairs also has a separate dressing area with two floor to ceiling double wardrobes large enough to store the contents of any size suitcase. The stylish and spacious shower room contains a large walk-in shower. The ground floor is open plan with a living area and fully fitted kitchen. The dining table seats two and the comfortable leather sofa is ideal for relaxing around the fire after a day exploring the surrounding countryside. Outside is an enclosed lawned garden with a table and chairs, perfect for dining alfresco on sunny evenings. The small Pennine village of Upper Cumberworth, close to the River Dearne, has many stone-built weavers' cottages similar to Lewis Cottage and typical of this part of Yorkshire. This lovely village has real character, particularly with its landmark railway viaduct. The Star local pub is just a short walk away and is an ideal place to chat to the friendly locals whilst enjoying a drink or two. Alternatively, drive to nearby Holmfirth where there are plenty of bars, restaurants, shops. For walkers and cyclists there is a network of local footpaths and cycle tracks, including the Trans-Pennine Trail which passes close to the cottage. Further afield are numerous footpaths and cycle tracks all within a short drive. Lewis Cottage is in close proximity to the M1, hence you could take a day trip to the historic city of York and the North York Moors National Park, or fashionable Harrogate and the Yorkshire Dales National Park. However if you do not want to venture very far The National Coal Mining Museum, Wentworth Castle, and the Hepworth Gallery are all within a short drive. Alternatively if retail therapy is for you, then you could catch a train from the local station through the picturesque Pennine Hills, directly to Meadowhall Shopping Centre in Sheffield with its 230 shops and 50 places to eat and drink. This character cottage is ideal for a relaxing romantic break at any time of the year.

The old traditional Pennine town of Holmfirth is situated in the heart of the beautiful Holme Valley, on the edge of the West Yorkshire Pennines. The town is full of lovely old stone cottages and interesting winding streets to explore, and has numerous festivals throughout the year which include exhibits in the fields of music and the arts. Holmfirth also has a good public swimming pool and fitness centre, parks and some super shops and restaurants. Holmfirth, will be remembered by many as being the home of Compo, Cleggy and Nora Batty, from the long running comedy series 'Last of the Summer Wine', so why not join the tour which covers the locations of some of their escapades?

" Park in the designated space on Carr Hill Road and carry luggage/shopping a few paces into the cottage. "

" Part from unloading your vehicle, there is no driving onto next doors property( number 35) or turning round. If you enter the drive nose in you have to reverse back out on to the road to park in designated space. There is a sign on the gate, but when it’s open, which it was when we arrived, it’s not obvious. This needs to be made clearer on the website. "

" The cottage is clean and comfortable with a modern homely interior. There are shops, pubs, and country walk nearby and the host put in an extra effort to ensure that we felt welcome when we arrived. There was a welcome pack including wine and chocolates and he even had the heater on so that we walked in to a nice warm atmosphere. "

" Very well equipped and truly a home from home. Bob the owner stocks all household items so you won't need to buy bin bags, laundry items, washing up liquid, even decent coffee should you need it. He's really helpful and really respects your privacy - he didn't even want to come into the cottage when I was there. Great place, really quiet, good views too. I felt really comfortable there. Would highly recommend. "

There were also a stack of games if you felt so inclined. Our host had left tea, coffee, milk, a bottle of wine and chocolates which were unexpected bonuses. The cottage is located in a great part of Yorkshire and we were able to go on a couple of country walks, including a visit to the Yorkshire Sculptor Park, which is less than 10 miles away. The cottage is within walking distance of a couple of pubs, one of which did excellent food. All in all, we had a great stay - just what we wanted. "

"Spent a lovely week in the Lewis Cottage. Very clean, cosy, and very comfortable. Well equipped, everything in cottage that you need for an enjoyable stay. Home from Home! Plenty of leaflets/literature for the surrounding area, and an abundance of DVD's in case of bad weather or if you prefer a cosy night in. There is also a delightful garden area across the path to the front of the cottage, ideal in nice weather for a spot of relaxation. On leaving the cottage Bob (the owner) noticed I left my fleece behind. He is very kindly going to post this to me. 'All part of the service' he said. Overall a lovely holiday in a lovely cottage."
