About this property

Stainforth 5.2 miles. Situated in a tranquil location, Swallows Farm, a detached, period farmhouse, is set on a non-working farm at the end of a quiet lane, surrounded by glorious South Yorkshire countryside, on the outskirts of the village of Sykehouse. Set in beautiful surroundings within secluded grounds, this farmhouse retains its original character and charm, featuring beamed ceilings and impressive feature fireplaces and a woodburning stove, perfect for large gatherings and celebrations. With plenty of space to spread out, this cottage offers nine bedrooms set over three floors, likely to suit all sleeping arrangements. A wonderful beamed double bedroom features an integral shower cubicle and basin and a sofa in a mezzanine area. A combination of doubles, singles and family rooms make this the ideal place whether you want your own bedroom or for friends to get together and enjoy a countryside break. The first-floor family bathroom features a deep, freestanding, roll-top bath, and there is also a cloakroom and separate bath on the ground floor which is next to the twin bedroom and is ideal for less mobile guests. The spacious, well-equipped farmhouse kitchen, with its granite worktops, double Belfast sink, and AGA, is perfect for social gatherings. Sit and enjoy delicious family meals together around the huge dining table in the kitchen before retiring to one of the two sitting rooms, one featuring a toasty woodburning stove creating a warm and welcoming ambience. Outside, extensive private gardens offer panoramic views over open countryside. Light the barbecue and enjoy alfresco dining in the warm summer sunshine, before ending the evening with a dip in the bubbling hot tub to really relax. Take an easy stroll through the orchard and farm fields or along the nearby canal bank when you’re ready to get out into the countryside. There is wonderful fishing just a mile away, at the popular Sykehouse Fisheries with competitions all year round; they will even break the ice for you in the winter! A good road network allows easy access to the pretty market towns of Yorkshire and the historic city of York, home to the Jorvik Viking Centre and the National Railway Museum. Take a trip to Hull and visit The Deep, while the seaside towns of Hornsea and Cleethorpes are well worth a visit. For the active ones in your group, head to Xscape with its indoor ski slope, climbing walls and surfing, or maybe have a round of golf at one of the many nearby courses. Swallows Farm is an ideal base to get together and uncover the delights of Yorkshire.

Stainforth is in Doncaster, South Yorkshire. In 1086, the Domesday Book documented Stainforth as "Stenforde," then "Staneford" in 1428. The town received a Royal Charter in 1348, allowing it to have a Friday market and a ten-day fair. In 2001, the mining settlement closed. Today, Stainforth is an excellent site to explore South Yorkshire and the Peak District National Park, with plenty of shops, a café, and the New Inn, a traditional tavern.
