About this property

A beautiful Tudor style Victorian cottage set on the edge of a lovely village

This 150 year old, grade II listed, Tudor style stone cottage is a real gem. It is a beautifully restored building of great character that has a wealth of history woven into its walls.

With its own private courtyard, an elevated lawn with old apple trees and blackberry briers, this is the perfect rural setting for a relaxed break.

Inside you will find a country style kitchen where you can prepare something special to serve in the rather grand dining room, which has an open fire place and reassuringly sturdy furniture. There is also a delightful lounge with bay window and fire place, where you can put your feet up after a day's exploration on the South West Coast Path.

The two bedrooms are of equally generous proportions and share a well appointed family bathroom across the landing. Enjoy the country views from the master bedroom where exposed beams and joinery add to the experience.

A short distance from the house is the excellent Churston Farm Shop plus a garden store and popular café. The ferry to Dartmouth is a five minute drive and Churston is one of the best locations possible for reaching all the attractions of Torbay, including the classic charm of Brixham with its growing reputation as a gastro hub. The Churston station on the South Devon Steam Railway is a five minute drive, whilst Churston Golf Club is a mile away, with pitch and putt and go karts also close by.

For a relaxed evening out, take the 10 minute stroll to Churston Court, one of the area's most celebrated and ancient inns, and the perfect setting for a pint of local ale and a ploughmans! Another 10 minute walk through the woods will lead you to Elberry Cove.

The School Masters Cottage is annexed to The Old School House which is an entirely separate three bedroom cottage of the same style, quality and architectural merit. Both properties may be let together to provide larger families or groups of friends with four double rooms and a twin.

The cottage itself is lovely, very homely and nicely decorated. We appreciated the info for dogs and the throw on the sofa, which was a welcoming touch. The garden is a good size and is secure so long as both gates to the road are shut. There are good walks from the door, and the dog friendly Churston Court Inn is a nice short walk away and does good food. However it is important to be aware that the property is on the corner of the busy Brixham to Paignton road. Although this means very quick access by car to routes in both directions, it does mean there is a fair bit of road noise and also walking to the Farm Shop, steam train station, etc, without pavements, would be quite dangerous - we didn't attempt it - and crossing over to the main part of Churston Ferrers can take a little time! If you're looking for a peaceful location, this is not the place, but if you want good access by car for trips out and walks from the doorstep, then this property is well placed.

Beautiful cottage. Cant wait to come back in the summer with some family/friends to make full use of both cottage & house together as an amazing location and fantastic accommodation. Such thoughtful presentation and all the tips well used for local walks and places to eat. Best wishes and will be back soon!
