About this property

For a 5-star self catering experience look no further than Maple Lodge. Oozing modernity and scandi-chic, this is the ultimate couples retreat.

Superbly equipped, utterly comfortable, this 5-star single storey holiday cottage has everything you might wish for when looking for a self-catering holiday cottage.  King sized double bed, wide screen Smart TV with Netflix, large shower, bath robes, a sunny south facing sheltered deck and a lovely hot tub in the garden.  Newly built Maple Barn is utterly contemporary and eco friendly with underfloor heating, ground source heating and hot water, eco friendly wood cladding and excellent insulation. Spacious and yet cosy, large bi fold doors open from the sitting room and bedroom onto the sunny deck where you can enjoy al fresco eating looking out over your own very private landscaped garden - so much nicer than an hotel. The perfect spot in which to spend a lazy day relaxing in the sunshine on a lounger reading a good book or enjoying the delightfully planted cottage garden.

Perfect too for any couple wishing to explore the unique and wonderful palette of landscapes, towns and villages of mid and west Suffolk, the Norfolk borders and Cambridge.  Close to Constable Country where you can still enjoy the country walks, admire river views, historic townscapes and churches so eloquently painted by Constable, Gainsborough and many contemporary artists.

About the Property: A five-star rated contemporary lodge charmingly located in a delightful garden setting, Maple Lodge has the finish of a top quality hotel, the comfort and privacy of a luxury home.  The stylish Scandi-style furniture and decoration have been chosen to provide comfort and relaxation giving keen cooks the equipment they need to produce top quality cooking with the minimum of clearing up. Light and bright you can enjoy the views whatever the weather, and if the sun is shining open the bifold doors from the living room or bedroom and venture out on the deck for meals or relax on the sun loungers.

The property is designed to minimise its environmental impact, with FSC accredited timber, biologically treated wastewater and electricity from renewable sources, the underfloor heating and hot water are supplied via air source heat pumps. Maple Lodge is part of a collection of 4 luxury self catering lodges known affectionately as 'Upthorpe Lodges'. You may also be interested in Oak Lodge, Cedar Lodge and Birch Lodge.

This property is ideal for: A couple seeking a complete break from the rigours of day to day life. Imagine days spent basking in the sun, enjoying the Hot Tub or even sitting back and listening to passing horses riding up and down the road; bliss. Even if time is short you can enjoy a short break at any time of year. Bring bikes and walking shoes, the area is great for exploring.

Stanton has a very well stocked local shop, a fine windmill to the east of the village and a pub.

Bury St Edmunds, a twenty minute drive away, is a delightful place to visit. With a well preserved town centre and a good range of shops, "Bury" has lots of places to eat and drink. Once home to one of the most important monasteries in medieval Europe, there is so much history to explore. The Abbey gardens are certainly worth a visit, and the Cathedral is splendid!

The Apex is a modern arts centre in town with a wide-ranging programme of entertainment, and the Theatre Royal is a traditional working theatre - Edwardian inside and out, very special!

Diss is a twenty minutes drive; much smaller than Bury St Edmunds it has a great feel and character. A picturesque market town bordering a lovely mere, it has some beautiful timber framed buildings dating from the 16th century. Friday is a great day for visiting, due to the Gaze auctions and the market in town. There are plenty of good places to eat and nearby is the Bressingham Gardens and Steam Museum.

For more information on what to do in the area, please see our Visit sites. Destination Bury St Edmunds, Visit Lavenham and Visit North Suffolk have lots of information on what to do and where to eat nearby.

Self Catering: You can get bits and pieces from the General Store by the war memorial in Stanton Village. On The Street in Stanton you will also find Palmer's Bakery. Rolfes of Walsham on the main street in Walsham le Willows is the best Butchers for miles.

You might also like to try the Saturday Farmers Markets at Wyken Vineyards, every weekend at 9am. Good quality, local food.

There are plenty of supermarkets nearby. The Co-op in Rickinghall is 4 miles away (head towards Diss, turn off the A143, and it is on the left, half way up the main street), there is a Tesco at Bury St Edmunds (just off the large roundabout where the A143 meets the A14), and a Tesco and Morrisons at Diss (follow the signs to Diss town centre, and they are next to each other on the left).

Eating Out: There are two local pubs - The Cock Inn and The Blue Boar, Walsham le Willows.

Just a five minute drive down narrow country lanes from Maple Lodge you will find Wyken Vineyards and one of the best restaurants in Suffolk, The Leaping Hare. You will need to book a table for the restaurant but the cafe menu is also excellent.

Nearby Bury St Edmunds has a vast choice of places to eat, from the popular Carluccio's chain serving genuine Italian classic dishes, to the Maison Bleue for fine French dining in modern comfortable surroundings. Other favourites include: Pea Porridge, Mediterranean-influenced fine-dining in a rustic setting, The Bay Tree Cafe Bistro which is great for a light lunch, and Cafe Kottani, an independent cafe just off the High Street, offering traditional Greek fare as well as sandwiches and paninis.

We had a lovely relaxing break. A fantastic lodge. We didn't need to go out and eat as it was so easy to do it here as you have thought of everything. Very comfortable, great decor and the Hot Tub was a superb bonus. Would have no hesitation in recommending you or visiting again. Thank you.
