About this property

Enjoy a stay in a great holiday cottage right beside the famous Bluebell Railway!

A wonderful detached Coach House that is set amongst beautiful rolling countryside in the High Weald of Sussex next to the famous heritage Bluebell Railway. The Coach House is surrounded by 160 acres of lush farmland estate that forms part of the Kingscote Vineyard. It sits central to the vineyard and the winery which is planted with the classic grape varieties of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. It will soon become one of the finest producers of sparkling wine in the south east of England.

The Coach House will sleep four in two very spacious bedrooms. This is a character conversion which is very tastefully presented with a keen eye on interior design. Traditional wooden and latched doors prevail. Downstairs there is one large living room filled with games and books, with a separate dining area and kitchen that is cleverly offset to the side. The kitchen comes with a cafetiere and a juicer. The two bedrooms upstairs are exceptionally spacious, light and bright. The main bedroom has a king sized bed while the second bedroom is fitted with twin beds. Two further beds can be added to the twin bedroom for an additional cost where extra flexibility is required for a family. There is a large family bathroom between the two rooms with a shower attachment above the bath.

In addition to the terrace outside, there is a large grass paddock with an ornamental pond and seating adjacent to the Coach House for guests to enjoy. The magnificent countryside and facilities here will really appeal. The farm was handed over to part of the Gravetye Estate, donated by William Robertson to the country in 1930 and is a fine example of an area of outstanding natural beauty. There are well stocked fishing lakes on the estate and guests have private access to much of this beautiful farmland. Climb to the top of the hill on the east of the estate and there are magnificent views over the Weir Wood Reservoir.

Kingscote and beyond

The Bluebell Railway follows the western boundary of the estate and is just 200 metres from the Coach House. The station at Kingscote which is towards the northern end of the line is just a mile away. Trains go north to East Grinstead, and heading south it winds its way through this lovely countryside to Horsted Keynes and beyond to Sheffield Park. The Bluebell which was the first preserved steam railway in England will shortly re- open to East Grinstead three miles to the north which will connect it with the mainline service.

This area of Sussex offers excellent access to many well known visitor attractions. The National Trust property at Standen is within two miles of Kingscote. The Victorian house inspired by the architect Philip Webb and his friend William Morris is tucked away at the end of a quiet Sussex lane and offers stunning views south over the High Weald towards the Weir Wood Resevoir. A visit here can easily keep you occupied for a day.

There are many magnificent gardens in this part of Sussex. Sheffield Park Gardens on the southern end of the railway is an internationally renowned garden and parkland that is also owned by the National Trust. Four miles southwest Wakehurst Place is home to the Millennium Seed Bank and offers many acres of specialist plants and trees to enjoy. Head west and Nymans House and Gardens and High Beeches Gardens at Handcross are both within a 15 minute drive.

This is just a flavour of the area. Take a look on our homepage under ‘Places to visit’ for full details on all the attractions.
