About this property

If you are looking for the perfect house for an extended family gathering or for a friends reunion look no further!

Celebration Cottage is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the company of friends or family. The downstairs kitchen living room is big enough for the whole group to get together in comfort. Whilst some of you are preparing a celebratory meal at the large range cooker there is room for the rest of you at the large dining table, or on the sofas at the other end of the room. Nobody needs to be shut away from the action just because dinner needs to be rustled up. As well as the large kitchen living room there is a separate comfortable sitting room with an open fireplace and comfy sofas for relaxing and socialising. Both rooms have TVs, with the one in the kitchen living room being Internet connected, and there is Wi-Fi for all of your mobile devices if you need it.

Upstairs the cottage has three bedrooms with twin beds, and two single bedrooms, thus giving an overall sleeping capacity of eight. One of the twin bedrooms has an ensuite shower room, and there is a large family bathroom with both a bath and a separate shower.

As Celebration Cottage is so well placed for walks in the immediate surroundings or on the nearby South Downs, it's also well geared to store your walking boots and outdoor clothes in the large lobby area, and there is a utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer should you need it.

Outside there is a large garden with an area to the side of the cottage for barbecues, outside dining and relaxing. The cottage has a wide drive with ample parking off the road for three cars.

Watersfield and beyond

The cottage lies within the South Downs National Park and is in a little lane just off the A29 in Watersfield, with footpaths leading in all directions. From here it is easy to access the Wey South footpath which leads to Amberley and thence to the South Downs Way. Watersfield is more hamlet than village, with Coldwaltham and Pulborough to the north, and the villages of Bury and West Burton to the south. There are several fine local pubs to be found nearby, the Squire and Horse at Bury is two miles to the south, and The Labouring Man at Coldwaltham is one mile to the north.

Footpaths climb to the Downs from West Burton however if you are feeling less energetic there is a car park at Whiteways by Bury Hill or you can take the lane to the Downs from Bignor village and park at the top beside the South Downs Way. This is where Stane Street, the Roman road crosses the South Downs en route towards Eartham and Chichester. From here there is a choice of good walking, east, west or south.

The village of Bignor is closely linked to the Romans. Here you will find the Roman Villa, a home and farm with world class mosaic floors that was a significant settlement in the 3rd Century AD. We include a link to Bignor Roman Villa under “Places to visit” on the website.

The historic market town of Petworth is six miles to the north and is best known as the location of the stately home Petworth House and deer park which was landscaped by Capability Brown. The house and its grounds are now in the care of the National Trust. The magnificent country house contains an internationally renowned art collection with numerous works by Turner. Petworth itself was immortalised in his paintings.

The town is full of quaint houses and cottages, many within their own courtyard settings. They are interspersed with antique shops and tearooms so it is worth taking the time to browse having visited Petworth House.

Six and a half miles to the south, Arundel is dominated by the majestic castle and the rising spire of the cathedral. It offers a plethora of craft and antique shops as well as restaurants and tearooms. It’s a great place to wander and just enjoy its hospitality.

Arundel Castle is the seat of the Dukes of Norfolk and is set in 40 acres of sweeping grounds and gardens. The castle has been seasonally open to visitors for nearly 200 years. It is one of the great treasure houses of England and is home to priceless works of art in stunning rooms. There are 131 steps to climb to reach the top of the 11th Century Keep, and the effort is rewarded with magnificent views over Arundel, back towards the South Downs and southwards to the sea.

This is just a flavour of what there is nearby. To the east there is Amberley Working Museum and the small community of Houghton on the River Arun. Celebration Cottage is also exceptionally well placed for all the events hosted at Goodwood each year. A short drive further on is the cathedral city of Chichester. In fact nothing is really that far away.
