A true Sussex vacation! Relax in this spacious Sussex home and enjoy the South Downs
If you like to chill and relax then Echo House is perfect for you. This wonderful detached home overlooks the South Downs National Park and the stunning Pulborough Brooks. The rspb Nature Reserve is only one mile away and glorious walks across the Brooks start straight from the front door.
This four bedroom home is just beautifully presented with a fabulous kitchen and living space around a warming central fire, a real highlight. Sky Movies, Sky Sports and BT Sport are on the big screen in this room! The kitchen here is comprehensively equipped with a dual range oven to top it off. Just off the kitchen is a dining area that is neatly offset. At the front is a glorious living room perfect for quiet relaxation and reflection on the day just gone!
The house will sleep between six and seven guests. There are four bedrooms. The main bedroom has a king sized double bed and an ensuite shower room. The second bedroom is fitted with twin beds that can be linked if required into a super king sized double bed. This room also has a third bed available where extra accommodation is needed maybe for a young family or friends. Bedroom three has a four foot bed, and bedroom four has a single bed. The house can work particularly well for a young family of up to seven but is best suited to a maximum of six adults. There is a full family bathroom with bath and shower above and downstairs there is also a full shower room.
The gardens rise behind the house with views towards the South Downs and with plenty of space to eat outdoors it’s a great place to be in the summer. Adjacent to the house is a pergola shaded terrace with a fire pit for evening warmth whilst enjoying the barbecue.
Pulborough and beyond
The South Downs National Park is literally the other side of the road from Echo House. The Pulborough Brooks, here forming the Park’s northern boundary is a deliberate flood plain for the River Arun as it flows south towards Arundel. Periodically it becomes a spectacular lake totally transforming the landscape here. There are many excellent walks across the Brooks and along the banks of the River Arun offering uninterrupted views south towards the South Downs. Part of the Brooks contains one of the rspb’s major reserves in the south. We carry a link to the rspb reserve within ‘Places to visit’ on our website.
Also nearby is the West Sussex Golf Club which is regularly judged one of the outstanding inland courses in Britain with ‘a priceless oasis of heather, sand, heath and trees beneath the Sussex Downs’. For any golf lover, staying at Echo House is very convenient indeed.
Three miles south east in the direction of Storrington and nestling at the foot of the South Downs is Parham House, a magnificent Elizabethan home that is a real jewel. Again it is featured under ‘Places to visit’ - a half day there is time well spent.
Heading northwest from Pulborough is the historic market town of Petworth. It is best known as the location of the stately home Petworth House and deer park which was landscaped by Capability Brown. The house and its grounds are now owned by the National Trust. The magnificent country house contains an internationally renowned art collection with numerous works by Turner. Petworth itself was immortalised in his paintings. The town is full of quaint houses and cottages, many within their own courtyard settings. They are interspersed with antique shops and tearooms so it makes the ideal place for a stroll following a visit to Petworth House and Park.

We stayed at Echo House for the first time in 2013 and again in 2015. We actually wanted to go in 2014, but we were too late and it was already booked. We are a family of four from the Netherlands. With 2 teenagers it is a very comfortable home from home with enough space for either being together or doing your own thing. The two living rooms are fantastic. The bedrooms are all very comfortable, good beds and nice linen. Enough room to choose where to sleep. The garden is a good size with various terrace areas also spacious and nicely laid with the landscaping. The loungers are placed just in the right place for catching the sun. Echo House is close to all the local amenities; two supermarkets, garden centre, main line train station to London.

I rented this property for my daughter and son-in-law and their three young children visiting from Australia. It was everything they had hoped for and more. The open plan kitchen/living area is well equipped with high quality appliances. The beds are comfortable with beautifully laundered, attractive bed linen. The rear garden is fully enclosed with BBQ and seating area for outdoor dining. An excellent pub serving good food is within very easy walking distance.

We had a wonderful long weekend staying in the beautiful Echo House. The location is perfect for getting out into the countryside and enjoying some lovely long walks. The house itself is beautifully decorated and very-well equipped to make for an easy, enjoyable and comfortable stay. We will definitely return for another escape! Thank you.
