About this property

Enjoy a relaxing holiday break in a charming wing of a fine 1920's country home in the heart of Sussex

Offering an outlook to the South Downs and many fine walks from the doorstep East End is a wing of a fine 1920’s style country home. It is cleverly and tastefully presented keeping much of the character of that period.

Located only a mile from the rspb reserve at Pulborough Brooks and on the boundary of the National Park, East End enjoys quite a magical setting. The West Sussex Golf Club, one of the premiere courses in Sussex, is found along the same country lane, so anyone who is a keen golfer will find this the perfect base.

The owners who once ran a small bed and breakfast from their house offer a warm welcome along with their three dogs and two cats!

East End offers really spacious accommodation for three people. There is a wonderful dual aspect living room with brick open fireplace that overlooks the garden. The main bedroom is a large double room with king sized bed which also overlooks the garden, while the single room on the east corner enjoys all the morning sunlight. There is one bathroom with a bath and shower above.

The gardens here are surrounded by fields and woods, with doves in the yard and deer on the hill. The owner is a sculptor, with some of his work displayed around the grounds. If you are a nature lover, admire sculpture and appreciate the ever changing light over the South Downs we think you will enjoy East End.

Wiggonholt and beyond

The small parish of Wiggonholt borders the South Downs National Park. The Wildbrooks on the flood plain at nearby Pulborough offers many excellent walks along the banks of the River Arun and uninterrupted views south towards the Downs. The Pulborough Wildbrooks also contains one of the rspb’s major reserves in the south which can easily be reached on foot from East End. We carry a link to the rspb reserve within “Places to visit” on our website.

The West Sussex Golf Club which is right next door is regularly judged one of the outstanding inland courses in Britain with “a priceless oasis of heather, sand, heath and trees beneath the Sussex Downs”. For any golf lover, staying at East End is very convenient indeed.

Three miles south in the direction of Storrington and nestling at the foot of the South Downs is Parham House a magnificent Elizabethan home that is a real jewel. Again have a look at it under “Places to visit” - a half day there is time well spent.

In the other direction is the historic market town of Petworth. It is best known as the location of the stately home Petworth House and deer park which was landscaped by Capability Brown. The house and its grounds are owned and maintained by the National Trust. The magnificent country house contains an internationally renowned art collection with numerous works by Turner. Petworth itself was immortalised in his paintings. The town is full of quaint houses and cottages, many within their own courtyard settings. They are interspersed with antique shops and tearooms so it makes the ideal place for a stroll following a visit to Petworth House and Park.

The property was in an idyllic setting. The interior had every amenity you could want on holiday. The owners were friendly and welcoming. The surrounding areas were excellent for day trips - Arundel, Brighton and Worthing to name but a few. No negatives.
