About this property

A superbly converted stable cottage set in beautiful countryside on the edge of the South Downs National Park offering idyllic views with easy access to local attractions.

Freeland Farmhouse Stables has been lovingly converted from a stable to an attractive two bedroom holiday cottage. Well located with an abundance of paths and bridleways on the doorstep, this is an ideal retreat for countryside lovers and walkers.

On entering the cottage you will find a spacious open plan living area with an open beamed ceiling and a comfortable lounge and dining space surrounding a woodburning stove. There are double bi-fold doors opening on to the front terrace which is great for those balmy summer evenings. The kitchen is superbly equipped with lovely views over the rear of the property towards the countryside and gliding club beyond. There are two spacious ground floor bedrooms and a family bathroom which has a walk in shower, WC and basin.

To the front of the cottage you will find a lovely patio area overlooking an enclosed cottage garden with seating perfect for enjoying the late afternoon sunshine. You can catch the local gliders flying high above in the Sussex sky whilst relaxing after a day of exploring. Access to the field area in the back provides a delightful surprise in a small football pitch which is perfect to tire out younger legs!

Storrington and beyond

Freeland Farmhouse Cottage is in an idyllic location surrounded by fields with local horses grazing and chickens roaming freely in the gardens. With the local gliding club based in the next field, why not take the opportunity of flying over the South Downs Ridge or experiencing a bird's eye view of the breathtaking scenery of Sussex, the South Downs and the coast. Imagine racing along the South Downs at 80-100mph, just a few hundred feet above it, and waving to all the walkers from the comfort of your cockpit!

For less adrenaline fuelled (but no less exciting) activities the rspb Pulborough Brooks is just a mile away from the cottage and is extra special for walkers and countryside lovers. There are many excellent walks across the Brooks and along the banks of the River Arun offering uninterrupted views south towards the South Downs. Part of the Brooks contains one of the rspb’s major reserves in the south and we carry a link to the rspb reserve within “Places to visit” on our website.

The nearby village of Storrington lies on the northern edge of the South Downs and is the closest village to the mid-point of the South Downs Way. Storrington is a lively village with most of the facilities of a small town. It has a wide variety of shops and businesses and a selection of pubs and restaurants to enjoy. It also offers access to a host of renowned walks across the Downs with footpaths leading to the top of Kithurst and Chantry Hills. For the less energetic there are roads leading to the top of the Downs both east and west of Storrington, with car parks once you reach the top.

Also within walking distance of the cottage is Parham House, a magnificent Elizabethan country house with beautiful formal gardens and open parkland. The rooms are graced with fresh flowers cut daily from the four acre walled garden. The main rooms are the Great Hall, Great Chamber and the Long Gallery which at the top of the house does leave a tremendous visual impression. During the year Parham hosts a number of popular house and garden weekends.

Just 10 minutes away by car and you can visit the Amberley Working Museum and Heritage Centre, which was used as a set location for the James Bond Film ‘A View to a Kill‘. It is a 36 acre open air museum set into a chalk quarry and is dedicated to the industrial heritage of South East England. Exhibits include a narrow gauge railway and vintage open top bus rides and there are many themed events hosted throughout the year which are guaranteed to entertain the whole family.

The West Sussex Golf Club is also located very close to Freeland Farmhouse Stables and is regularly judged one of the outstanding inland courses in Britain with “a priceless oasis of heather, sand, heath and trees beneath the Sussex Downs”. A great course for golfers to challenge themselves!

Freeland Farmhouse Stables is also an ideal base from which to enjoy the many illustrious events that the Goodwood Estate offers. There are thrills to be had at the two motorsport events ,the Festival of Speed and the Revival meeting. Also, the summer horseracing festival 'Glorious Goodwood' which is run on the loveliest race track in the land with glorious views over the rolling South Downs all the way across Chichester to the sea.

For lovers of stately homes Arundel Castle, Petworth House and Goodwood House are all within a short drive and it is also only a short drive to the coast where you can enjoy the beaches at Littlehampton, Climping or Bognor Regis.
