Chichester and beyond

Jubilee House is just a five minute walk from the City Walls of Chichester. It is 1800 years since the walls and gates were first built around the Roman town of 'Noviomagus Reginorum'. Today they are the most intact circuit of Roman town defences in Southern England. More than 80% of the original structure has withstood the test of time and virtually the whole of the circuit is publicly accessible which is a great way to explore and view the city.

Chichester is one of the great well-preserved Georgian cities in the UK providing a key role in Sussex affairs since Roman times. The streets are packed with listed buildings including the imposing cathedral which has been a part of Chichester history for almost 1000 years. The city centre is enclosed within the ancient city walls which is ideal for exploring by foot. With its plethora of attractions, shops and restaurants, Chichester is a cosmopolitan city with a vibrant and friendly vibe.

With such a long and varied history Chichester is, of course, home to a dynamic arts scene offering many galleries and museums to peruse. It is also home to the famous Festival Theatre. which is renowned for its quality of productions as well as featuring many world premieres. We have a link to the theatre's many showings from our website under “What’s On”.

Just a short drive and you will be in Chichester Harbour, an area of outstanding natural beauty which is one of the few remaining undeveloped coastal areas in Southern England and remains relatively wild. Its wide expanses and intricate creeks are at the same time a major wildlife haven and among some of Britain's most popular boating waters.

Picturesque creek side villages encircle the shoreline, and one of the best known of these is Bosham. The church, which is prominent in the village, dates back to Saxon times with the earliest parts having been constructed during King Canute’s reign. Today charming Bosham is always bustling with its thriving centre for sailing and a wealth of artisan shops or you can just relax and watch the world go by from one of the attractive shore side restaurants and pubs.

Jubilee House is just a few miles from the Goodwood Motor Circuit, so perfectly positioned for access to the Festival of Speed and the Revival Meeting. Venture north to the South Downs, and Trundle Hill offers spectacular views back to the city as well as a great view over Goodwood Racecourse, where the prestigious Glorious Goodwood meeting takes place in high Summer. The wonderful Downland hills make this an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this is an area that has much to offer and it is worth enjoying both Chichester and these wonderful surroundings.
