There is direct access to the gardens from here so you can also utilise this area in fine weather. There is a separate, more formal dining room also available which overlooks the front of the house. Just off the kitchen, there is a snug room which is an ideal area to keep children occupied or a cosy space for evening entertainment. The comfortable lounge, with its own piano and open fire, is the perfect place for relaxing and listening to music, watching television or just enjoying the view over the gardens to the countryside through the floor to ceiling windows. There is also a cloakroom available on this floor.

You will find all of the sleeping accommodation on the first floor. The principal bedroom has a king sized bed and a full size ensuite with bath and walk in shower. The additional plus is the stunning private decked terrace which has panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. The second bedroom has double aspect views and has a king size bed with its own ensuite bathroom. The third and fourth bedrooms both have a double bed and the fifth is a single with an additional trundle bed available. The modern family bathroom has a walk in shower available.

Goodwood Oak House is surrounded by beautifully maintained gardens and there is a gravel driveway which provides plentiful off street parking.

Strettington and beyond

A quiet hamlet to the east of Chichester, Strettington is within ten minutes of the centre of the city and borders the Goodwood Estate. Goodwood House , home to the Earl of March, is within half a mile of Oak House and is set in magnificent grounds that extend onto the South Downs. The house is open to visitors during the year and we carry a link to Goodwood House under the ‘Places to Visit’ section of our website. On top of the Downs is one of the world's great racecourses, with expansive views across the Downs towards the Solent.

Chichester is one of the great well-preserved Georgian cities in the UK. The city’s broad streets are packed with Listed buildings headed by the towering presence of the cathedral. The 600-year-old spire of Chichester Cathedral, rising above the peaceful streets below, can be seen from miles out at sea. Head inside to see the striking arches and stained glass windows – or you can join a guided tour for the full insight into this stunning construction.

The city centre is neatly enclosed within the ancient city walls, which helps to make Chichester compact and pleasant to explore on foot. It is a cosmopolitan, vibrant and friendly city proudly combining two thousand years of heritage with a lively lifestyle. There are plentiful independent boutiques to browse and a plethora of restaurants to please the most discerning palates. Chichester is also home to undoubtedly one of the best theatres outside of London. The Chichester Festival Theatre has seen countless stars and big West End shows appear on its bill, with an annual programme of theatre, comedy and special events culminating in the Chichester Festival.

A couple of miles south west of the city you come to Chichester Harbour an area of outstanding natural beauty with a plethora of wildlife that shares this delightful area with the sailing activity that abounds. The harbour is made up of a series of tidal creeks and Bosham is probably the best known of the quayside villages and offers much of interest. Bosham is always bustling and is a joy to visit.

Just half an hour drive and you can be enjoying the wonderful Blue Flag beach at West Wittering. This beautiful stretch of dune-backed sand is a beach that is entirely unblighted by development except for a row of candy-coloured beach huts. At low tide there’s a wide swathe of sand – perfect for beach cricket and football – and large tidal lagoons. There are plenty of smaller pools too, that are perfect for small children to splash about it. To the west of the main beach, connected by a narrow strip of land, is the National-Trust managed East Head, a salt and shingle spit criss-crossed by boardwalks, with grassy dunes and a crabbing pool – the stuff of happy childhood memories.
