About this property

If you fancy a short break away for two in a handy location for both the Sussex beaches and the Sussex Downs then look no further...

Grooms Cottage is in a delightful setting within the grounds of the owners' country home. Just two miles from Littlehampton and Climping beaches, great stretches of coastline to walk, and with the historic town of Arundel and its castle less than two miles to the north this cottage is in a very good setting for a convenient break away.

Although only a studio cottage there is good space here when the bed is lowered. The kitchen and dining area is nicely separated from the main living and sleeping area and there is the addition of a bathroom with a shower attachment above the bath rather than a shower room, something you do not often find in a studio cottage.

The grounds of the owners' home are extensive and guests are invited to enjoy the gardens in front of the cottage.

Please note that the cost of heating and electricity is not included - meter readings will be taken before and after your stay.

Lyminster and beyond

Lyminster is a small village immediately to the north of Littlehampton and within two miles of historic Arundel. The cottage is perfectly placed to enjoy so much within Sussex offering an easy drive to Chichester to the west and Worthing and Brighton to the east. As we have mentioned the Sussex beaches are also close by.

Arundel only two miles away is a historic market town dominated by the symbolic castle and the rising spire of the cathedral. The view as you approach Arundel from Grooms Cottage is impressive. It offers a variety of craft and antique shops as well as restaurants and tearooms. It’s a great place to visit and enjoy its hospitality.

Arundel Castle is the seat of the Dukes of Norfolk and is set in 40 acres of sweeping grounds and gardens. The castle has been seasonally open to visitors for nearly 200 years. It is one of the great treasure houses of England and is home to priceless works of art in stunning rooms. Climbing the 131 steps to the Keep which dates from the 11th century to take in the views over Arundel and the South Downs is definitely worth the effort.

The River Arun winds its way around the town and is a magnet for wildlife. With more than 60 acres of ponds, lakes and reed beds, Arundel Wetland Trust attracts some of the world’s most spectacular ducks, geese and swans. The best way to enjoy the river is on a river cruise stopping off at the Black Rabbit pub or proceeding further north where the river hugs the scarp wooded slope at the foot of the Downs before reaching Amberley.

Climping Beach and Littlehampton’s West Beach are within a ten minute drive. This is a beautiful unspoilt length of beach of Special Scientific Interest and at the eastern end beside the mouth of the River Arun is the West Beach Café built by local craftsmen using materials sourced locally. It is worth a visit, the fish and chips come highly recommended!
