About this property

Self catering holiday cottage for four people within easy striking distance of Arundel, South Downs and the Sussex Coast

Courtyard Cottage is in a delightful setting within the grounds of the owners' country home, and with an adjacent holiday cottage for two, which can be booked independently if additional space is needed. Full details of Groom’s Cottage can be found on our website. Just two miles from Littlehampton and Climping beaches, great stretches of coastline to walk, and with the historic town of Arundel and its castle less than two miles to the north this cottage is in a very good setting for a convenient break away.

Internally the cottage has lots of space to offer. The front door leads into a sun lounge with access to a gravelled courtyard for exclusive use of the guests. On the ground floor there is a comfortable dining hall, ideal for relaxing meals during your stay. The kitchen has all the essentials, including dishwasher and washer/dryer. The comfortable sitting room is perfect for relaxation, with two sofas and a TV with Freeview. In cooler weather there is a feature electric fire to provide a cosy focal point, and of course there is central heating to make the cottage suitable for holidays whatever the season.

Upstairs the principal bedroom has a king sized bed, with luxuriously deep mattress, and next door is a twin bedroom. These beds also have deep and comfortable mattresses. Also on this floor is a light and airy bathroom with WC, basin and bath. There is a mixer tap which also provides the shower.

The grounds of the owners' home are extensive and guests are invited to enjoy the gardens in front of the cottage.

Please note that the cost of heating and electricity is not included - meter readings will be taken before and after your stay, and the owners will collect the payment from you. Also, the owners of Courtyard Cottage do not take bookings with children under the age of 10 years old.

Lyminster and beyond

Lyminster is a small village immediately to the north of Littlehampton and within two miles of historic Arundel. The cottage is perfectly placed to enjoy so much within Sussex offering an easy drive to Chichester to the west and Worthing and Brighton to the east. As we have mentioned the Sussex beaches are also close by.

Arundel only two miles away is a historic market town dominated by the symbolic castle and the rising spire of the cathedral. The view as you approach Arundel from Courtyard Cottage is impressive, with the town laid out in front of you. The castle and the cathedral provide two dominant focal points. Arundel offers a variety of craft and antique shops as well as restaurants and tearooms. It’s a great place to visit and enjoy its hospitality.

Arundel Castle is the seat of the Dukes of Norfolk and is set in 40 acres of sweeping grounds and gardens. The castle has been seasonally open to visitors for nearly 200 years. It is one of the great treasure houses of England and is home to priceless works of art in stunning rooms. The 11th Century Keep provides excellent Downland and coastal views from the top. Although there are 131 steps to climb in order to get there, the effort will be amply rewarded.

The River Arun winds its way around the town and is a magnet for wildlife. With more than 60 acres of ponds, lakes and reed beds, Arundel Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust attracts some of the world’s most spectacular ducks, geese and swans. The best way to enjoy the river is on a river cruise stopping off at the Black Rabbit pub or proceeding further north where the river hugs the scarp wooded slope at the foot of the Downs before reaching Amberley.

Climping Beach and Littlehampton’s West Beach are within a ten minute drive. This is a beautiful unspoilt length of beach of Special Scientific Interest and at the eastern end beside the mouth of the River Arun is the West Beach Café built by local craftsmen using materials sourced locally. It is worth a visit, the fish and chips come highly recommended!
