A fantastic designer property and a perfect retreat for two in Slindon Woods that has to be unique. The Swimming Pool Retreat is finished and presented to the highest standard. Where else would you find your own private pool lined with individual mosaic tiles with your own home wrapped around it? With a Brazilian slate floor surrounding this amazing centrepiece and granite work surfaces in the kitchen area this is accommodation finished to the highest standard that lends itself perfectly to weekends or short breaks away for two people wanting something just a bit special and exclusive, and it is not available for bookings longer than six nights.

The pool here is a constant depth at 1.4 metres and at 9.3 metres long or approximately 30 feet it is certainly a decent size. The accommodation is kept at a controlled temperature making it comfortable throughout both the winter and summer. The main room is fitted with a relaxing sofa and armchair, and 42 inch wall mounted TV that is internet linked. A small kitchen area is offset to one side which is equipped with a microwave oven and grill, Domino two ring hob and a granite topped breakfast bar.

The double bedroom is off the main room and is sealed from the main room. It has an ensuite shower room fitted with a remote controlled shower. A television fitted in the bedroom also enjoys the same internet technology. A separate cloakroom is located off the main room.

There is an outside to this property! Located in the grounds of the owner’s home in Slindon Woods the garden is occupied with two alpacas! A small decked patio area is provided for outdoor relaxation where you may be joined by a couple of friends!

We are sorry but the property is not suitable for babies or small infants.

Slindon Woods and beyond

The Swimming Pool Retreat sits within the 1400 hectare Slindon Estate. Today it is owned by the National Trust. The nearby woods consist largely of beech trees that heading north soon open out onto open farmland on the lower slopes of the South Downs. Within the Estate there are over 30 miles of rights of way that criss-cross the estate to explore. Included within this is Stane Street, the Roman road linking London with Chichester offering a particularly picturesque walk through the woods from Eartham to the top of the South Downs at Bignor where it meets the South Downs Way.

The village of Slindon is only a mile away and as it also comes under the care of the National Trust there is a strong emphasis on maintaining the tradition and resisting unnecessary change. Visit in October or November for the famous Pumpkin Festival held at Pumpkin Cottage!

The Swimming Pool Retreat is in the perfect location for the premier motorsport events at Goodwood as well as of course Glorious Goodwood. Just over three miles to the east of Goodwood it is within a ten minute drive taking in some of the most beautiful country roads over the Downs.

Fontwell Park Races a unique figure of eight track and a jewel for West Sussex is within 0.5 miles as is Denman Gardens.

The beaches at Climping and Bognor Regis are within five miles. Climping is a beautiful unspoilt length of beach of Special Scientific Interest. At its eastern end, beside the mouth of the River Arun, is the West Beach Café built by local craftsmen using materials sourced locally. It is worth a visit, the fish and chips do come highly recommended!

A short distance to the east from Slindon, Arundel is a historic market town, dominated by the symbolic castle and the rising spire of the cathedral. It offers a plethora of craft and antique shops, as well as restaurants and tearooms. It’s a great place to wander and just enjoy the hospitality on offer there.

Arundel Castle is the seat of the Dukes of Norfolk, and is set in 40 acres of sweeping grounds and gardens. The castle has been seasonally open to visitors for almost 200 years. It is one of the great treasure houses of England, and is home to priceless works of art in stunning rooms. Climbing the 131 steps to the Keep, which dates from the 11th century, to take in the views over Arundel and The South Downs is definitely worth the effort.

Five miles to the west of the Swimming Pool Retreat is Chichester, the cathedral city of Sussex. It is one of the great well-preserved Georgian cities in the UK that has played a key role in the affairs of Sussex since at least Roman times. The city’s broad streets are packed with Listed buildings, headed by the towering presence of the cathedral. In the late spring and summer the cathedral spire is home to a family of peregrine falcons who swoop over the city at dusk.

The city centre is neatly enclosed within the ancient city walls, which helps to make Chichester compact and pleasant to explore on foot. It is a cosmopolitan, vibrant and friendly city proudly combining two thousand years of heritage with a lively lifestyle.

Chichester is also home to the famous Festival Theatre. It is renowned for its quality of productions, as well as featuring many world premieres. We have a link to the theatre from our website under “What’s On”.

We had a wonderfull time at the Swimming Pool Retreat, it’s definitely what it says on the tin, a lovely little get away in a great location of local towns etc. We explored the coast, had a wonderful dinner at the Crab and Lobster only 20 min drive and spent long hours in the pool with the music turned up! The kitchenette proved very handy so you didn’t always need to go out for all meals which was good keeping the cost down and helped you enjoy where we were staying more. Would definitely recommend and return :)

I have just returned from a few days at The Swimming Pool Retreat, if it is total peace and quiet and relaxation that you are looking for then I would recommend this property. The owner was so helpful and could not have done more to make me feel welcome and made himself available to answer any queries I had. The standard of the property was amazing, quite luxurious, a real treat. I could not have wanted for more.
