About this property

Enjoy a relaxing holiday in this superb barn conversion close to the Sussex coast

It is like entering a small oasis when you turn into Flansham, something we know guests find very restful. Wellow Barn is a beautifully converted period barn right in the heart of this small hamlet. The barn is in a great setting for walking locally while having easy access to the coast at Elmer and Middleton on Sea, as well as access inland to the South Downs.

The barn is exceptionally well presented with under floor heating throughout and much thought has been given to presentation and to guests comfort. Little period touches like the glass brick holes through the building highlight its history as a once working building.

The impressive kitchen dining hall combining with the galleried sitting room makes a great space and offers much room for four people to relax.

The two ground floor bedrooms are both double rooms, one is fitted with a king sized bed, the second with a conventional double. The bathroom is also on the ground floor and is fitted with a bath with shower attachment.

Flansham and beyond

Flansham is a beautifully unspoilt hamlet found along a quiet lane and is very close to the sea.

The popular beach at Climping, which is probably the most accessible, is an area of special scientific interest and stretches for a couple of miles between Elmer and Littlehampton. On the eastern end is West Beach that meets with the estuary of the River Arun at Littlehampton. At the top of the beach is the West Beach Café constructed from locally sourced materials by local craftsmen. It comes highly recommended for its fish and chips!

To the west of nearby Bognor Regis you come to Pagham Harbour Nature Reserve. It is another area of outstanding natural beauty and special scientific interest. The harbour is tidal so is full of wildlife.

Chichester the cathedral city of Sussex is no more than five miles from the barn. It has played a key role in the affairs of Sussex since at least Roman times. The city has broad streets that are packed with listed buildings headed by the towering presence of the cathedral.

The city centre is neatly enclosed within the ancient city walls, which helps to make Chichester compact and pleasant to explore on foot. It is a cosmopolitan, vibrant and friendly city proudly combining two thousand years of heritage with a lively lifestyle. A trip to the Chichester Festival Theatre close by to the centre is worth considering since it is famous for the quality of theatre productions, many of which premiere here before moving on to the London theatre scene. For the film buff the cinema complex and nearby restaurants to the south of the city also make for an enjoyable evening out.

Five miles northeast of Flansham on the River Arun is the historic market town of Arundel dominated by the symbolic castle and the rising spire of the cathedral. The town makes an imposing site when approached from the south. It offers a plethora of craft and antique shops as well as restaurants and tearooms. It’s a great place to wander and just enjoy its hospitality.

There is always much to see and do in Sussex and staying so near the coast gives the best of both; beaches very close by and an easy springboard back inland to explore the South Downs, a great area to walk.
