About this property

All the modern comforts are incorporated within this traditional Arundel holiday cottage. Just an ideal setting for the town, the South Coast beaches and the South Downs

Angel Cottage stands on the site of the General Abercrombie pub in Arundel, which was lost in a fire some years ago. The site was cleared and two traditionally styled cottages were built to replace it, one of which is now available for holiday lets. The location is ideal, being just across the river Arun from the main part of the town of Arundel, with the Cathedral on the top of the hill and the Castle rising majestically from close to the river bank.

The kitchen is at the front of the cottage with plenty of space to enjoy meals at the dining table in the centre. The kitchen is compact and well thought out, with all you need for meals during your holidays. At the back of the cottage is a spacious sitting room, with French windows opening onto the patio garden. This is the ideal space for alfresco dining, or perhaps a barbecue on a warm evening. The sitting room has a feature gas, coal effect fire, just the thing to make the cooler evenings more cosy.

Upstairs there are three bedrooms, a double, a twin and a single. All are furnished in a traditional style with modern beds that are of a traditional 19th Century appearance. The family bathroom contains a bath with shower over, together with a basin and WC, and there is also a downstairs cloakroom with basin and WC.

Unusually for Arundel, Angel Cottage has a dedicated off road parking space for one car.

Arundel and beyond

Arundel is a historic market town dominated by the symbolic castle and the rising spire of the cathedral. It offers a plethora of craft and antique shops as well as restaurants and tearooms. It’s a great place to wander and just enjoy its hospitality.

Arundel Castle is the seat of the Dukes of Norfolk and is set in 40 acres of sweeping grounds and gardens. The castle has been seasonally open to visitors for nearly 200 years. It is one of the great treasure houses of England and is home to priceless works of art in stunning rooms. The Keep at the centre of the castle dates from the 11th Century. Climbing the 131 steps to the top to take in the views over Arundel and The South Downs is definitely worth the effort.

During the summer the Arundel Festival is held over a ten day period and features an eclectic mix of music, drama and arts. Many homes open their doors and gardens over this period to provide a wonderful backdrop to the variety of art on show. Angel Cottage is perfectly placed to participate in as much of the activity as you like. We feature the festival under “What’s on” on the homepage of our website.

The River Arun winds its way around the town and is a magnet for wildlife. With more than 60 acres of ponds, lakes and reed beds, Arundel Wetland Trust attracts some of the world’s most spectacular ducks, geese and swans. The best way to enjoy the river is on a river cruise stopping off at the Black Rabbit pub or proceeding further north where the river hugs the scarp wooded slope at the foot of the Downs before reaching Amberley.

Further afield Arundel is well placed for the coast. Climping Beach and Littlehampton’s West Beach are only a short drive away. This is a beautiful unspoilt length of beach of Special Scientific Interest.

Goodwood and Fontwell racecourses are nearby along with the cathedral city of Chichester with its excellent Festival Theatre noted for not only the quality of productions but also the fact many world premieres are featured as well.

If you fancy a day in the city, Arundel mainline station is on a direct route to London so why not mix the cosmopolitan capital with this beautiful part of Sussex.

Angel Cottage was very well presented and the owners were terrific in their level of contact and information in the run up to checking in. We were presented with a lovely fruit basket, some wine and water etc. The Cottage itself is beautiful, and the beds very comfortable. We will return in the summer with our children again.

Angel Cottage is lovely, and we were very glad to have stumbled on it via Amberley House Cottages! It is spacious and very well appointed, the kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed to cook with, and some bits to start us off (thanks Richard!). The house also has a great location - we stayed with children so it was great being able to run back from the village if we needed it. The parking space also comes in very handy. I would certainly recommend it as a base for visiting Arundel or the surrounding area.

We had a lovely stay at Angel Cottage, we enjoyed being so close to town and took advantage of the fabulous butcher and deli as well as the Saturday farmers market. We had a very successful outing to Gaston Farm for the 'open lambing tour' - really super and great value for money. We also enjoyed lunch at the Black Rabbit with its wonderful views. Thank you for making it an easy holiday and also for your thoughtful recommendations
