About this property

Relax at this beautiful Sussex flint cottage that enjoys a real Mediterranean feel

Lagnersh Cottage is a beautifully presented ground floor cottage in a most wonderfully peaceful courtyard garden setting. The raised private garden is a perfect suntrap, while the vine covered pergola offers the right amount of shade. There are spectacular sunsets to enjoy from an outlook across open fields towards the South Downs allowing views to Goodwood Racecourse.

On the fringe of Pagham Harbour Nature Reserve, the weather here is often warm and temperate, and the colours and planting in the garden very much reflect this giving it a perfect Mediterranean feel.

The cottage is an attractive conversion of a Sussex flint farm building set beside the owner’s Georgian home. It offers very comfortable accommodation for four people that reflects the character of the building. The stable door overlooking the courtyard garden makes a lovely original feature together with the exposed roof timbers, while the wetroom family shower room brings “modern living” to your stay. There are two bedrooms, one with double bed, the second with twin beds. The cottage is comprehensively equipped and is in the perfect setting to enjoy the walking opportunities that surround this beautiful area.

Lagness and beyond

Lagness is a small village found between the beaches at Aldwick and Bognor Regis three miles to the east and the cathedral city of Chichester to the west. It is also right beside the utter tranquility of Pagham and Pagham Harbour a mile or so to the south.

This part of the coastline is a haven for unusual birds and wildlife, with Pagham Harbour Nature Reserve and Chichester Harbour a little further to the west both being areas of outstanding natural beauty. Pagham Harbour is an internationally important site for nature conservation, while Chichester Harbour also combines its wildlife attractions with sailing centres such as Itchenor, Bosham, Dell Quay and Emsworth. Between these harbours there are beaches at Selsey and the Witterings, the latter offering unrivalled views across the Solent to the Isle of Wight.

Chichester the cathedral city of Sussex is no more than four miles away. It has played a key role in the affairs of Sussex since at least Roman times. The city has broad streets that are packed with listed buildings headed by the towering presence of the cathedral.

The city centre is neatly enclosed within the ancient city walls, which helps to make Chichester compact and pleasant to explore on foot. It is a cosmopolitan, vibrant and friendly city proudly combining two thousand years of heritage with a lively lifestyle. A trip to the Chichester Festival Theatre close to the centre is worth considering since it is famous for the quality of theatre production, many of which premiere here before moving on to the London theatre scene. For the film buff the cinema complex and nearby restaurants to the south of the city also make for an enjoyable evening out.

There is always much to see and do in Sussex and staying in Lagness gives the best of both; beaches close by and an easy springboard back inland to explore the South Downs or for visiting the Goodwood events from the now famous Festival of Speed, and Glorious Goodwood, tothe Goodwood Revival each September.

We had a lovely break at Lagnersh Cottage. The house was beautiful and very well equipped, it had everything we needed and was in an ideal location. Linda (the owner) was very nice and also very helpful, thank you!
