    About this property

This fabulous semi-detached cottage is located in Holmbury St Mary in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty that provided the countryside backdrop to the London 2012 Olympic cycle race. Large, light and welcoming this beautiful cottage has stunning views over the woodland surrounding it. A perfect choice for couples, friends and families looking to stay only a short walk from a quintessential English village where the church overlooks the village green and two popular village pubs offer delicious meals with a fine selection of local food and ales. With four bedrooms, all with different layouts, and two bathrooms, you will be sure to find a bedroom to exactly fit your needs when staying at Woodhill Cottage. There are two delightful sitting rooms, each ideal for your needs, whether it be cosying up in the snug in front of the open fire, reading a book or watching TV in cooler months, or relaxing together in the spacious, light and airy garden room with a vaulted ceiling and lantern windows with French doors that can be thrown open to let the soft breeze drift in during warm Summer days. If you need to work or study while enjoying your stay at Woodhill Cottage, then a bureau and chair is provided just for that purpose. Holmbury St Mary is a lovely Surrey village nestled in the Surrey Hills. The village and area is a magnet for visitors either on foot, saddle or cycle. With such magnificent woodland surrounding it you would be excused for never wanting to explore far, however with Dorking and Guildford so close by, you could spend a day exploring the antique and bric-a-brac shops then enjoying a cream tea is not to be missed. Look around England’s largest vineyard at Denbies Wine Estate, the stunning National Trust property Polesdon Lacey or the Royal Horticultural Society gardens at Wisley. Why not even include a day visiting the capital during your time at Holmbury St Mary? Only 40 minutes by train and you can be in London taking in the sights and sounds of this bustling and iconic city. Visiting St Paul's Cathedral or Buckingham Palace you must be sure to see the Changing of the Guard and maybe take a river trip along the Thames passing the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben and under Tower Bridge before heading to the West End for a show. With so much to see and do you will find yourselves needing to return. After a day exploring, cycling, walking or maybe just relaxing in the sunshine, the welcome of this Surrey cottage is waiting to see you home.

The village of Holmbury St Mary is a quintessential English village with a green and a large church set up on a hill which is lit by several lights in the evening, making it look quite spectacular. "I don’t mind old or worn. A new chair can sit just as comfortably as an old chair, but when it comes to hygiene, only one way will do. The house needs a decent spring clean and the contents needs to be reviewed. Many of the dining room chairs were very rickety and could break at any moment. Other specific issues: - Main bathroom’s bath had soap scum ring all around the bath with 3 short black curly hair in it. - The two yellow cups in the main bathroom was covered in toothpaste as well as the sink. - The taps in both bathroom sinks had toothpaste splatter. - In the kitchen behind the breadtin next to the Aga, was a piece of food, looked like a small tomato that was shrivelling up. - Whomever unpacked the dishwasher last must have had greasy/oily hands, as the “clean” plates in the cupboard had greasy fingerprints all over them. - The en-suite bathroom window’s curtain is covered in black mold. - The table covering in the dining room had a streak of what looked like egg yolk running down the side of it. - Many of the dishes in the top right hand drawer next to the electric cooktop, has cracks in them (the red one, one of the blue spotty ones and many other small ones.) We did not use these, in case they broke. - We could not get any of the radiators upstairs to turn on, no matter how high we turned the heat. - Neither of the towel bars in the bathrooms ever switched on. - We were not cold upstairs as thankfully the floorboards had so many gaps the heat from down stairs made its way up. - The fridge is dirty with bits of food remains sprinkled throughout. - The master bedroom’s bed lost one of its slats when my husband sat down to tie his shoes. - The bed in one of the kids’ rooms (pink room with only one bed) also dropped a slat. We got there early and the housekeeper was very kind to allow us in as she was finishing the kitchen floor. She made us a cup of tea and it certainly was much appreciated. We would love to stay at this cottage again. Great location! It is spacious and the woods out back a real treat for the kids, but alas it needs some major cleaning and a good overall in its contents. Not sure if all ’ cottages are in this state. Rented twice from Classic Cottages before and their cottages were spotless (so it can be done)."

"Just right. Excellent Kitchen, lovely surroundings, 11 out of 10. My family really enjoyed their stay. Everything you could wish for."

"The cottage is according the description although it does miss abit of TLC as someone before described. The red couch in the sittingroom is a ruin and should be replaced. The toilet in the master bedroom is not working well and the toilet seat should be replaced. For this price tag it should be in good order. Despite those facts, we recommend this cottage. It is a nice location, well equiped and in a very beautiful area. Trainstation in Guildford for London is a 30 minutes drive. Good pubs in the village. The housekeeping is excellent. She came straight away when the wifi was not working at arrival."

"I thought this holiday home was lovely. The photographs really don't so it justice. It's a very warm and welcoming home from home with great walking right on the doorstep. Our family had a wonderful time here over Christmas. The kitchen was really well equipped. I was worried about getting a Christmas dinner ready in a rental property but I needn't have."
    Mrs Schlicher
"Woodhill cottage excessen our expectations. Maybe it sounds picky, but the sliding window on the picture lowered our expectations a bit and we we were hesitating about eentonig this cottage initially. Now that we have been there it is the opposite: we are recommending this place to everybody! It really gives a homely and warm feeling and it is very well equipped!"
