A handsome Georgian style house in the centre of the seaside resort of Southsea. A wonderful base to explore Portsmouth’s naval history and nautical connections.
With elements of Georgian simplicity and modern convenience this fascinating house is located on the corner of two residential streets between Portsmouth and Southsea and dates back to 1804. Helby’s has three snug bedrooms upstairs, each with crisp white linen on the beds, and a newly fitted out bathroom with roll top bath and separate shower.
Given its age the layout of the house is most definitely of its time and more than a little unique, with spiral steps to a basement TV room complete with wooden floors and original wooden staircase to the first floor. There’s also a small enclosed, private garden terrace for summer drinks and BBQ’s.
Opposite the house is a local pub serving food and ales, plus all of Portsmouth’s cultural and tourist attractions within easy walking distance. Helby’s is the perfect self-catering accommodation for families and friends or professionals needing a perfectly central location to Portsmouth with Georgian seaside charm.

Well located in Southsea to be able to access both Portsmouth and Southea attractions and the Isle of Wight. Helbys has a lot of space. Bedrooms had comfy beds and were well stocked with plenty of hanging space. Being an old house and on the road you could hear the traffic and people outside but this wasn't a problem it was just noticeable when you aren't used to hearing it.Downstairs was a little tired. The furniture in the living / dining room is an old 'parlour style' room and did all feel a little fusty. The downstairs tv room/ additional bedroom was ok but the TV didn't have much access and we couldn't particularly watch much. That said the provision of WiFi was great and we used this to stream TV instead. The Kitchen was very well stocked with everything we needed. Again it was a little tired and dated but functional with plenty of space to store things. Due to the weather we couldn't use the outdoor space but it would have been nice if we could have sat out. The garage was great and was a huge plus to store it away.
