About this property

This fabulous holiday home is set in the grounds of Upnor Castle House, in Upper Upnor, and offers guests the chance to experience a unique style of self-catering cottage with views of the River Medway, Upnor Castle and so much more! This spacious detached cottage has been lovingly transformed from what was once a stable block serving the main residence into a spacious, comfortable holiday cottage, therefore combining a traditional property with the demands of modern day living. The two delightful bedrooms are positioned either side of the family bathroom on the first floor. The master double bedroom has a wrought iron bed which allows for guests to enjoy the beauty of each morning from their window. The large kitchen with its dining area makes for a perfect place for guests to come together and enjoy each other’s company over a long, lingering dinner and a bottle of wine. Perhaps you will want to dine alfresco during your stay, with the Italian kitchen and its pizza oven only a few steps from the cottage and complete with outdoor seating, what could be a better place? The sitting room has lots of comfy seating, so on a warm evening open the French doors and let the summer breeze drift through as you settle down to exchange news and views or watch a film on the TV. If holidaying during the summer, you will have the chance to take a dip in the outdoor swimming pool, or laze and relax with a good book on the loungers that are positioned in this haven of tranquillity. While enjoying this beautiful sunspot you could be forgiven if you thought you were somewhere more exotic when you see the figs and bananas growing, this sheltered sunspot is a perfect retreat. For those who have energy to wear off, then there is the grass tennis court or croquet lawn to use, making this cottage a picture perfect English country house experience. You may never wish to leave this wonderful holiday home, but only a short drive and you will find yourself in historic Rochester where Charles Dickens was born and died. In memory to this son of Rochester, the village hosts Dickens’ Week each year. This lovely city, with its cathedral and castle to explore, cobbled streets, quaint shops and tea rooms, makes for a historic and eventful day out. Also from the nearby Strood railway station you can be at London St Pancras International in around 35 minutes. This beautiful holiday home, set in magnificent grounds, with a castle for its nearest neighbour, is the ideal choice at any time of the year.

Upper Upnor is a lovely village, with steep, cobbled streets and set on the banks of the River Medway. This is the ideal setting for enjoying an evening riverside stroll, taking in the sites of the boats and ships passing by. Following this, why not stop into one of the two pubs for a refreshing drink? Rochester is also nearby and is well worth visiting, with its impressive castle. Being the birthplace of Charles Dickens, Rochester celebrates Dickens' Week each year, where you will see costume parades and street markets.
