About this property

This picturesque, Island Stone cottage is hidden away on The Undercliff between St Lawrence and Ventnor, on the south coast of the Isle of Wight. As you step out of your car, you will feel a sense of calm at the sheer beauty and utter tranquillity of your surroundings. Inside, Lisle Combe Cottage is full of original character and charm, with beamed ceilings throughout the ground floor and stunning views from the spacious dining room, sitting room and kitchen. The kitchen is contemporary and has been cleverly designed to complement the many features of the original cottage. Upstairs, there are two bedrooms, both with stunning coastal views. The larger bedroom has a super king-size bed, with the zip/link function of becoming two singles, while the other houses one adult single bed and one suitable for a child. The garden is private and extremely pretty, with mature shrubs and trees all around. Look out towards the horizon and you will see the green pastureland giving way to the bluest of seas, where shoals of fish glisten in the sun. The cottage is a short walk from the wonderful Ventnor Botanic Garden, which benefits from The Undercliff’s Mediterranean climate, enabling many varieties of worldwide subtropical and temperate plants to thrive here. As well as having a very popular café/restaurant, the gardens hold many exhibitions and events throughout the year. Just a 15-minute walk along the coastal path will bring you to the island’s hidden treasure, Steephill Cove, where you can swim safely and stroll along its sand and shingle beach. Watch the fisherman launch their boats, or sit on the beach enjoying a crab sandwich, while watching some of the islands most spectacular sunsets. A wonderful cottage, perfect for families exploring the Isle of Wight, all year round.

The Victorian seaside resort of Ventnor is situated at the southern end of the Isle of Wight. The town is sheltered by St. Boniface Down, one of the island's highest points, and it also offers sandy and shingle beaches, the Botanical Gardens, shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants.

Loved the surrounds. Great View. Lucked in with the weather - Ventnor is so far south its always one of the hottest places in the country. New kitchen - great utility there. Bathrooms all good, cant complain for a cottage. Downsides (and there are minor with regards to our enjoyment of the holiday) 1. No vanity table - no where to do your makeup and hair. I ended up taking a mirror off the wall, finding a small table and using a dining chair to make somewhere for my Mrs to do her ablutions. 2. Beds - so uncomfortable - sprung mattresses. Bad nights sleep - came home a day early as my back couldnt take it anymore. 3. Settee in the living room is awful. Super uncomfortable. Realistically only 3 people can comfortable watch the TV. The seat cushions move under you and often your hands slip down. Quite a hazard really. We had to gingerly get up and down. 4. No mirrors to assist with getting the car out of the driveway - 2 mirrors pointing either way along the road would have saved me having to stand in the middle of the road to guide the driver safely out. With it being such a steep driveway its not so easy or safe to inch your way out. 5. The driveway needs more gravel or tarmacking (or raising a little). On our last day when it was raining - the car kept wheel spinning and it took the wife 4 attempts to get out of the driveway. 6. The view of the sea is obstructed by the branches with foliage on them on a tree just outside of the cottage boundaries. I am sure Lisle combe would not miss these 3 branches. If trimmed back it would give a perfect unobstructed view of the sea. I am sure as Clare's brother lives there he could do it or arrange it. 7. Outside seating had no cushions and were very uncomfortable and small. We moved the seating to try and give is a better view of the sea. 8. A badger or other animal kept digging the grass up on the lawn each night. By the time we left it looked like a rugby pitch. Perhaps some sort of electronic repellent? Or even some automatic outdoor lighting? 9. Some outdoor lighting in general would have been night for evenings sitting out. Even some fairy lights wrapped around a few trees would have made it a lot more aesthetic. Overall we loved our holiday to Lisle Combe cottage, but unless points 2,3,6 and 7 were addressed we would not stay there again. If you are not comfortable on holiday it can ruin your holiday. Thankfully we didn't let it, but we did cut short our stay.

. Very sweet and cute... We loved the lizards in the garden... The house was well equipped... But to come to the house there were a few stairs in the garden to reach it.. And with a disabled person that was a bit of a problem. So maybe good to name it on the website. But I w1t was manageable... Luckily there was a bedroom downstairs in the house. So thank you very much.... We loved Isle combe cottage. And we love to come back!! Fam. Te Pas
