About this property

An Art Deco villa that will win your heart with its graceful charm and unique styleAn Art Deco villa that will win your heart with its graceful charm and unique style

Built in the late 1920s, Charleston House on the Isle of Wight is a time capsule perfect for transporting you back to the roaring age of the Charleston, Hollywood glamour and The Great Gatsby.

The Art Deco style is brilliantly captured in the huge stained glass windows, galleried landing and stylishly vintage furnishings. Set upon a cliff top location, the sliding picture windows in all the main living areas and bedrooms allow you to witness all the heart-stirring views over Sandown Bay and out to Culver Cliff every moment of the day from when the sun rises to when the sun sets. Much of the furnishing throughout reflects the Art-Deco period.

For when you want to bring your family and friends together, an elegant, oak-panelled banquet room provides enough space to feed up to 19 with any culinary masterpieces you can create in the fully equipped, high quality, shaker style kitchen. A splendid triple aspect drawing room has doors which open into the sun room and out into the landscaped gardens, an area to sit during the summer and marvel at the sights while dining al-fresco with your loved ones.

From the garden gate you will be just five minutes from the Blue Flag beach that stretches from Sandown to Shanklin, and the tarmac cliff path allows people of all ages to take a stroll. For cycling devotees there is a dedicated cycle shed and cycle access. Of all the charming and traditional seaside resorts, Shanklin definitely sets itself apart with its lustrous long, wide, sandy beach and dramatic sandstone cliffs.

Whether you are young or just young at heart you will never run out of things to do with the local areas being lined with amusements, water sports facilities and the plentiful choice of restaurants.

For those who wish to have a quieter time away, lose yourself in the history and character of Shanklin Old Village where there is always the option of casually strolling through the open green spaces and fantastic parks and gardens.

The weather couldn’t have been better and your house is truly unique. Even with 15 of us in there it still felt huge! No one could quite believe the location/garden/decor. The kitchen facilities were fabulous too, and we catered easily for every meal between us (making brownies, bloody Mary’s and barbecues). Being able to walk down to the beach for morning swims was also a real joy. It couldn’t have been simpler to organise and it has been a pleasure dealing with you. Thank you so much – from all 15 of the hens!

We were a party of ten adults and six children with ages ranging from eighteen months to sixty eight years being three generations of the same family. I have walked past this house so many times along the cliff walk from Shanklin to Sandown over the years and wondered who on earth could live in such a fabulous place. I never dreamt that I may, one day stay there. I was not disappointed. The bedrooms are laid out well to accommodate several families and are really well furnished with some of the Art Deco items being truly amazing. There are many living areas downstairs including a very large dining room with a vast table. Great for big family meals together. The gardens look lovely in the pictures on the website but are even better in the flesh. This house had every facility you can think of, endless crockery, cutlery. Glasses and pots and pans. The owners were extremely helpful and seemed genuinely nice people. I could spend all day writing about this house but in general I have to say it was a fantastic place to stay and it gave us one of the best holidays we have ever had.

There are not words to describe quite how fantastic the Green Tiles Marine Villa really is. It happily accommodated our party of 17 and is truly a beautiful house. It was completely spotless and a very thoughtful welcome pack was left with some very yummy treats for us. Thank you Laurence and Sharon for allowing us to stay in your wonderful house...we will be back!"
