Golden Hill Fort is situated within 50 acres of Golden Hill Country Park. Originally built in 1863 in a distinctive hexagonal shape, which is elevated 60 metres above the North West coast of the Isle of Wight. This spectacular Grade I listed building has now been beautifully converted into 18 luxury houses. Ideally located on the Western edge of the island it is the perfect place to visit many Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The developers have succeeded in preserving the fort's historic and architectural significance and maintained many original features whilst adding the latest in modern conveniences. Internally, the property offers brick barrel vaulted ceilings flooded with coloured LED mood lighting, underfloor heating with solid oak floors and high quality built-in appliances. Externally, the communal rooftop gardens (approximately 5,500 square metres), is where guests can enjoy stunning panoramic 360 degree views across the Solent, English Channel and countryside. A Victorian fort converted into apartments, what a splendid idea. We booked a short Christmas/New Year break here a mixed group of family members in a four bedroom apartment. The accommodation comprised a large through lounge/dining room with under floor heating, large, extremely well appointed, kitchen, utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer and loo, one master bedroom with en suite (complete with its own 160 foot deep glass topped well), one double with shower room and two twins with shower rooms. The apartment is divided up so that the lower floor is all bedrooms which are traditionally heated. The fort is accessed through an electronic security gate and cars are parked in the inner courtyard around the fountain. Everything is provided, there are plenty of towels and an abundance of warm bedding. The interior is very new with multi coloured lighting hidden in the tops of the walls and the vaulted brick ceiling has been made into a feature, cracking. Go up to the roof terrace and look out to sea in three directions. There are sitting areas and BBQ stands and I suspect that in the summer this would be the place to spend a spectacular evening relaxing. It was excellent value for money and our "caretaker" couldn't have been more helpful.
