About this property

The perfect family holiday cottage set in woodland at the foot of the glorious Hampshire Hangers

Found in the quiet hamlet of Steep Marsh, Taylors Copse Cottage enjoys its own private setting in the heart of beautiful bluebell woodland, at the foot of the renowned Hampshire Hangers. In the spring it is understandably a wonderful carpet of colour, and guests can enjoy the many walks that lead through these private woods.

This is a perfect place to stay for anyone with a young family, since it is also a small holding with new born lambs and piglets each spring plus also, horses are kept in the adjacent stables and are exercised each day.

The cottage is perfectly in keeping with its surroundings, and offers very comfortable accommodation for five in two bedrooms. The second bedroom with three single beds is exceptionally spacious and the cottage can if need be accommodate six through use of a futon that is provided in that room. The main double bedroom is on the ground floor, but is on a slightly lower level and since it is accessed via a few stairs from the hallway, it makes a nice feature and gives this cottage a feeling of being that little bit individual.

The central living room has comfortable leather sofas and a feature wood burning stove. Doors open out onto the terrace and the garden beyond. The kitchen is spacious with good dining space and is fully equipped.

Steep Marsh and beyond

Steep Marsh is on the edge of the Hampshire Hangers, one of Hampshire’s most beautiful woodland areas. Consisting of 323 acres of woodland, with many magnificent beech trees, there is a rise and fall in the landscape here made the more impressive by the fact most the area is covered in trees. The scenery is outstanding and has been given the name “Little Switzerland” to this part of Hampshire.

Being amidst such beautiful scenery, the cottage falls comfortably within the South Downs National Park. It is just two miles from the historic market town of Petersfield and its leisure facilities. As the main junction between London to Portsmouth, and Midhurst to Winchester the town enjoyed a brisk trade in coaching days and in 1696-97 had no fewer than nine coaching inns listed. There are certainly no shortage of country inns in the vicinity today!

Butser Hill at 270 metres (890 feet) is the highest point on the South Downs. It is easily accessible being just a short distance south of the town. The climb to the top is challenging, but the views are rewarding and there is a refreshment kiosk at the top! It forms part of the Queen Elizabeth Country Park, Hampshire’s biggest country park offering 20 miles of trails for walkers, cyclists and horse riders. It is a popular recreational area. We feature a link to the park under our section “Places to visit” for East Hampshire from our homepage.

Also listed are Hinton Ampner, and Stansted Park both within easy reach, and across the border into Sussex is the National Trust property Uppark, located high on the Downs at South Harting.

This area is very accessible, Portsmouth’s historic dockyard, the Spinnaker Tower and Gunwharf Quays are within twenty minutes by rail or car, while Winchester and the western end of the South Downs are easily accessible due west from Petersfield.

A perfect stay in a perfect cottage, in a perfect setting. We all loved the farm animals (especially the children and their friends who visited). We will definitely stay again when in the UK.

Lovely setting in the woods. Nice and clean cottage with lovely comfortable furnishings. Very friendly and helpful owners that are keen to make sure you enjoy your visit. Can't think of anything I would change and it will be on our list to visit again.

Myself and my three friends had a lovely and very relaxing stay at this cottage. It was very well furnished and we particularly liked the little touches such as fresh flowers in the all rooms. A gorgeous and very quiet setting yet close proximity to Petersfield, mainline station and A3. Plently of parking. Very well equipped and very clean. Would definatley recommend the property and this website to friends.
