Oak Cottage is a delightful pet friendly cottage, perfect for walkers, with the South Downs Way on the doorstep and the beautiful Sussex Coast just minutes away

In an idyllic countryside setting located within the South Downs National Park, Oak Cottage has everything you could need for your rural break. There is a step up to the entrance to the cottage which leads directly into the hallway. The comfortable lounge and dining area is perfect for two with both Freeview television and WiFi provided. There is a separate kitchen with a full oven, hob, fridge and washing machine available ; perfect to rustle up a hot breakfast before embarking on your days activities.

The double bedroom is spacious and has plentiful storage with a wardrobe and dressing table both provided. The modern and light bathroom, with a walk in shower, also has a WC and basin (please be aware that there is a step up to the shower)..

The garden area is to the front of the cottage with a table and chairs provided. This has views over neighbouring gardens to the South Downs beyond.

Parking is available for one car in the gated driveway.

Oak Cottage is also situated next to Brooke's Cottage so can be booked together if you are looking for larger accommodation that sleeps up to four people.

Jevington and beyond

Oak Cottage is in the lovely hamlet of Jevington which is just three miles from Eastbourne and close to the Cuckmere Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Cuckmere Haven's shingle beach and Friston Forest Walks are among the local beauty spots.

The Seven Sisters Country Park and visitor centre at Cuckmere is a must for any visit and is just a ten minute drive from Oak Cottage. It takes the name of the famous cliffs and comprises 280 hectares of chalk cliffs, the meandering river valley of the River Cuckmere and chalk grassland for visitors to enjoy. It is popular for a number of outdoor activities including birdwatching, cycling and canoeing. Eastbourne is famously known as the sunshine coast as it has some of the best weather in England, sweeping South Downs countryside and colourful art scene. Originally a fishing village and later developed into a large Victorian beach resort, Eastbourne is one of England's most popular seaside destinations. Its elegant three-mile-long seafront promenade extends along wide pebble beaches, and a marvellous holiday atmosphere permeates the spectacular mid-19th-century Grande Parade. At the end of the wide esplanade, Eastbourne Pier projects far out to sea behind the Winter Garden theatre. The traffic-free areas around the High Street offer a colorful array of shops and art galleries, as well as plenty of entertainment at locations such as the historic Royal Hippodrome Theatre. Eastbourne also boasts several fine parks and leisure facilities, and sports enthusiasts are well catered to with numerous golf courses and tennis courts.

Another worthwhile day trip from Jevington is to the Pevensey area. The village is on a ridge of land that juts out into the marshland at Pevensey Levels, an area of outstanding natural beauty that is important for birdlife and wildlife. The village is a mile inland from the beach at Pevensey Bay and is filled with many quaint stone and weatherboard cottages. It is best known however because of its castle which was the landing place of William the Conqueror’s army in 1066. From the fourth century it had been a Roman and Saxon Shore Fort and two thirds of the walls still stand today. Following the conquest a full scale Norman castle with a square keep and gatehouse was built within the fort.

Herstmonceux Castle is a short drive away and offers 300 acres of woodland, formal gardens and, of course, the 15th Century moated castle. The building at the time was the largest private home in England and, since it adopted the French fashion of building in brick, the castle of Herstmonceux was unique. It is well worth a visit to learn a little about the history of the castle and relax before taking a gentle stroll around the formal gardens.

Other attractions close by for your enjoyment include Glyndbourne, with internationally renowned concerts and plays performed throughout the year, and Firle Place which is an outstanding privately owned country house in Sussex that dates from the time of Henry viii. The house, gardens and notable collection of works of art and porcelain are of national importance and will ensure a day to remember.
