About this property

The Salts is an attractive, stylish dog friendly holiday cottage for four, perfect for exploring all that 1066 country has to offer.

You enter the cottage, into a small hallway with stairs leading up to the bedrooms and a door leading to the open plan living area. There is a fully fitted kitchen to the front of the property, with everything you could possibly need during your stay, including a Nespresso coffee machine. There is a dining area with table and chairs to comfortably seat four. The lounge area has a sofa and occasional chair with plenty of cushions and throws to make this a cosy spot to while away an evening. There is Sky TV, wifi and board games available for when you just want to kick back and relax, after all, you are on holiday. French doors lead to an enclosed terrace with outside table and chairs for alfresco dining or a morning brew, the perfect sun trap.

The first floor has a double bedroom to the rear and has been tastefully furnished with scatter cushions, pretty throws, digital radio and magazines, giving a real feel of luxury. The large family bathroom, has a separate shower cubicle, bath, hand basin and WC. A complimentary toiletries box awaits every stay with locally sourced natural ingredient products from ‘Wideye’ a pretty, independent shop in the high street.

The second floor has a small work area, at the top of the stairs, just in case you need to bring work away, a desk, stall, lamp, and power point for your laptop. The double bedroom on this floor is beautifully furnished and the owner has added a fan, just in case the sultry evenings require an extra breeze.

The owners of ‘The Salts’ have really tried to think of everything to make your stay special, from beach bag, to hair dryer to dog basket, bowl and doggie treats. For those travelling with young children, there is a travel cot & folding high chair available on request too. A welcome basket with milk, crisps, biscuits and a locally sourced apple juice and a cupboard stocked with different teas, coffee and even hot chocolate.

Although the cottage is family friendly we do ask that guests with young children take particular care when exiting the property, as there is only a narrow path in front of the cottage and the road is busy.

As is common place in Rye, the cottage does not come with parking but you are only five minutes from the nearest council car park and a gentle ten minute stroll from free on road parking.

The Salts is perfectly positioned for enjoying all that Rye has to offer, you are only moments away from good pubs, restaurants and the towns medieval history.

Rye and beyond

Always a good start to any visit to Rye is the town’s Heritage Centre. Here you can watch the Town Model's 'Sound and Light' show, which goes into detail about the history and the colourful past of Rye and it's inhabitants, or wander upstairs and play the ‘Old Penny Pier Machines’ and giggle at the ‘Laughing Sailor”. If antiques interest you, then visit the Strand Quay where you can try your hand at bartering and grab yourself a bargain! Rye benefits from a good selection of independent boutiques and coffee/tea shops, to enjoy at your leisure.

Camber Sands is three miles away and can be reached by a cycle path all the way from Rye to the beach if you wish to walk or cycle or by car. There is a regular bus service from Rye to Camber during the week, running approximately every thirty minutes, at weekends the wait may be a little longer. The beach is sandy and goes for miles with large sand dunes to shelter in, if there is a seabreeze. The waters are shallow and go out for miles and during the summer months life guards patrol the bathing waters.

The town of Winchelsea is a 10 minute drive away and, like Rye, has a rich history and links to the days of smugglers. One of the many cellar tours that take place during the year, is a worthy visit and a chance to see parts of the town that are not normally on show. With far reaching views over the marshes and out to sea, it really is a pleasant way to spend a few hours and for the keen walkers the chance to pick up the 1066 route.

Just 10 minutes drive away is the Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, where you can walk along the sea wall and out on to the marshes to enjoy the flora and fauna. You can choose to walk out to Camber Castle, originally located on a shingle spit and where once it protected the towns of Rye and Winchelsea before the sea receded. Although no longer open to visitors, it is still a striking landmark worth a visit. The beach of Camber Sands is just a three mile drive away and has miles of sandy beach and dunes to explore.

The towns of Hastings and Ashford are around a 30 minute drive away and here you can get mainline trains to London if you wish to explore the capital for a day. If you would like to take a day trip to the continent, the Eurostar can be picked up from Ashford International Station and trains to Paris, Lille and Bruges are available. Alternatively, the ferries run from Dover, just 45 minutes away or the Channel Tunnel from Folkestone, a 45 minute drive.
