About this property

Stay in this cosy, contemporary grade II listed cottage in the pretty village of Pett, with beautiful coastal walks close by and the Medieval Town of Rye only a 15 minute drive away.

You enter Rose Mullion through the back door, into a small boot room, with a downstairs cloakroom and ample coat hanging space, very handy when returning from bracing walks with muddy boots.

The well equipped galley kitchen is equipped with everything you could possibly need to make your stay relaxing and home from home. The lounge has a large inglenook fireplace and creates a warm cosy feel on those cold winter nights. Beautiful exposed beams & cosy throws, cushions and seating for 7, make this a delightful room to snuggle up and watch a movie on those chilly days! From the lounge you have the single bedroom, with an outlook onto the garden. The dining room, with large inglenook fireplace and seating for 6 is delightful. Exposed beams and chunky furniture make this a great entertaining space.

On the first floor bedroom two overlooks the garden, and although typically cottage size, has hanging space and additional clothes storage can be used in the principal bedroom. The principal bedroom overlooks the front of the property and is a large room with ample space for a travel cot and good inbuilt storage. The main family bathroom is reached through the principal bedroom and is modern and contemporary, with a large bath with overhead fixed shower.

The front of the property has a small ornamental garden with a picket gate and footpath leading to the front door. The owners do not use the front door, as the key is a very large old brass key (about 12cm in size), which would be a nightmare to carry around when out for the day, but will be in the property if you wish to see it. The large rear garden is fully enclosed, mainly laid to lawn with a paved terrace for enjoying those summer BBQ's and lazy evenings.

Pett and beyond

Rose Mullion is situated in the village of Pett, with a village Post Office selling general provisions, two pubs and a church. In the vicinity are spectacular cliff top walks, local nature reserve and bird sanctuary. Hastings Country Park Nature Reserve, stretching from Hastings to Cliff End, Pett Level where it gives access to the beach, is a unique 660 acre area of maritime sandstone cliff with a cliff top area of grassland and heath, woodland, glens covered with gorse and trees, nature trails and spectacular walks, one of which leads to the coast at Fairlight Glen. Set in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, most of the park has been designated a special Area of Conservation and a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

The Medieval town of Rye is 5 miles away and a visit to the Heritage Centre is a must, where you can watch the Town model's 'Sound and Light' show, which goes into detail about the history and the colourful past of Rye and its inhabitants. Or amble around the many antique shops in the Strand Quay and hunt out a bargain!

The town of Winchelsea is a ten minute drive away, and like Rye has a rich history and link to the days of smugglers. One of the many cellar tours that take place during the year is a worthy visit and a chance to see parts of the town that are not normally on show. With far reaching views over the marshes and out to sea, it really is a pleasant way to spend a few hours.

Just 10 minutes drive away is the Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, where you can walk along the sea wall and out on to the marshes to enjoy flora and fauna. You can choose to walk out to Camber Castle, originally located on a shingle spit and where once it protected the towns of Rye and Winchelsea before the sea receded. Although no longer open to visitors it is still a striking landmark worth a visit. The beach of Camber Sands is just a short drive away and has miles of sandy beach and dunes to explore. Or visit the rock pools at low tide on the pebbly beach at Pett Level, just a 5 minute drive from Pett.

The Towns of Hastings and Ashford are around a thirty minute drive away and here you can get main line trains to London, if you wish to explore the capital for a day. If you wish to take a day trip to the continent the Eurostar can be picked up from Ashford International station and trains to Paris, Lille and Brussels are available. Alternatively the ferries run from Dover just 45 minutes away or the Channel Tunnel from Folkestone a 45 minute drive.

Beautiful cottage, well equipped and refurbished to a high standard. And blissfully peaceful - we plan to return.

We stayed at Rose Mullion Cottage for 1 week at the end of July 2013. It is a lovely, well equipped cottage, with everything you should need. The enclosed garden with table, chairs and BBQ was lovely and quiet, with the added bonus of a trampoline for the children to play on. It is in a lovely area with Hastings, Battle, Rye and Pett Levels not far away. There are lots of good eating pubs around the area, our favorite was the Two Sawyers in the village.

We had a fabulous stay at Rose Mullion Cottage, Pett and were all sad to leave at the end of the week. It's a fantastic cottage, beautifully decorated inside with all you could need while on holiday. The garden was a great bonus too and the children enjoyed the trampoline. Some simple "how to use" guides for the cooker, microwave, shower, dishwasher etc would be useful, but otherwise everything was perfect and we hope to be able to visit again one day. A highly recommended accommodation in a beautiful part of the country.
