Saltmarsh Cottage is the perfect place to unwind, beside the sea, in the seaside village of Camber Sands on the East Sussex coast.
The attractive, weather boarded cottage is presented to a high standard, in a quiet location, only a few minutes walk from the beach. Saltmarsh Cottage is situated at White Sands, the beautifully designed New England style fisherman's village. The cottage is perfect for lazy days building sandcastles on the beach with the family, exploring the nature reserves of Dungeness or Rye Harbour or getting lost in history whilst visiting medieval, historic Rye. It is also a wonderful base for walkers, cyclists and bird watchers all year round.
You enter the property into a small hallway, with hooks for hanging coats and somewhere to store your shoes. The downstairs is open plan with kitchen, dining and lounge spaces clearly defined, great for holiday chatting while preparing dinner. The kitchen is well equipped for all your holiday needs with an extending table to comfortably seat four. The lounge has a large leather corner sofa, Freeview flat screen TV, Blu-ray Player and Wifi. A selection of DVD's and board games are provided. The focal point for the lounge is the flame effect fire, cosy after those winter walks or to add a romantic glow on cool summer evenings. Off the kitchen is a utility area, with shelving for buckets and spades and it is where you will find the washer/dryer. There is a downstairs WC and a door leading to the small enclosed picket fence garden. The garden has space for a table and two chairs, a pleasant spot to enjoy a glass of wine or morning coffee, or dust off the sand from those feet.
Upstairs there are two bedrooms, one double bedroom with views towards the marsh and a twin bedroom. The family bathroom meets all your holiday requirements, with a bath and overhead shower, hand basin and WC. Sets of towels are provided, though you may wish to bring beach towels.
The property is very family friendly, with travel cot, high chair, bed guards, baby intercoms, a selection of children books and various other pieces to make travelling with children easier.
There is allocated parking for one vehicle in the centre of the car ports at the back of the property and also for one vehicle behind the cottage.
The owners do have a dog that they occasionally bring with them when they visit the cottage.
Camber Sands and beyond
The Sussex village of Camber has much to offer, with its beautiful sandy beach, which stretches for miles and safe bathing. The village has various small shops, a Post Office, two pubs, a wine bar and The Gallivant restaurant. A variety of activities can be enjoyed including kite surfing, kite buggying, surfing, land yachting, horse riding, fishing as well as numerous other activities both on the beach and nearby, including the wildlife havens at Dungeness and Rye Harbour Nature Reserve. Water sports are taught at Rye Water Sports lake, which is only one mile away.
The medieval town of Rye, with it's fine restaurants and pubs, is just 3 miles away. There you can visit the Heritage Centre where you can watch the Town model's 'Sound and Light' show, which goes into detail about the history and the colourful past of Rye and it's inhabitants. Or amble around the many antique shops in the Strand Quay and hunt out a bargain!
The town of Winchelsea is a ten minute drive away and like Rye, has a rich history and links to the days of smugglers. One of the many cellar tours that take place during the year, is a worthy visit and a chance to see parts of the town that are not normally on show. With far reaching views over the marshes and out to sea, it really is a pleasant way to spend a few hours and the delightful tea room is a great place to stop for refreshments.
Just 10 minutes drive away is the Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, where you can walk along the sea wall and out on to the marshes to enjoy flora and fauna. You can choose to walk out to Camber Castle, originally located on a shingle spit and where once, it protected the towns of Rye and Winchelsea, before the sea receded. Although no longer open to visitors, it is still a striking land mark worth a visit. Camber Sands beach is just a short walk away and has miles of sandy beach and dunes to explore. Or visit the rock pools at low tide on the pebbly beach at Pett Level, just a 10 minute drive from Rye.
The Towns of Hastings and Ashford are around a thirty minute drive away and here you can get main line trains to London, if you wish to explore the capital for a day.The high speed train from Ashford to London takes just 38 minutes! The fastest service to London from Rye via Ashford takes just 1 hour and 12 minutes.
If you would like to take a day trip to the continent , the Eurostar can be picked up from Ashford International station and trains to Paris, Lille and Brugge are available.
Alternatively, the ferries run from Dover, just 45 minutes away or the Channel Tunnel from Folkestone, a 45 minute drive.

First and foremost we absolutely loved the house - it was clean, comfortable and has everything you need; a real little bolt-hole! Sitting out in the back garden was always a delight. The sun stayed with us until about 6pm in the evening and we made good use of it.

Thank you so much for allowing us to stay in your cottage - it is lovely. We had a fantastic holiday. Tommy loved the beach, the ice-cream and went on the steam train.
