Camber Sands and beyond

The Sussex village of Camber, has much to offer, with its beautiful sandy beach, which stretches for miles and safe bathing. The village has various small shops, a Post Office, two pubs, a wine bar and The Gallivant restaurant. A variety of activities can be enjoyed including kite surfing, kite buggying, surfing, land yachting, horse riding, fishing as well as numerous other activities both on the beach and nearby, including the wildlife havens at Dungeness and Rye Harbour Nature Reserve. Water sports are taught at Rye Water Sports lake, which is only one mile away.

The medieval town of Rye is just 4 miles away. There you can visit the Heritage Centre where you can watch the Town model's 'Sound and Light' show, which goes into detail about the history and the colourful past of Rye and it's inhabitants. Or amble around the many antique shops in the Strand Quay and hunt out a bargain!

The town of Winchelsea is a ten minute drive away and like Rye, has a rich history and links to the days of smugglers. One of the many cellar tours that take place during the year, is a worthwhile visit and a chance to see parts of the town that are not normally on show. With far reaching views over the marshes and out to sea, it really is a pleasant way to spend a few hours and the delightful tea room is a great place to stop for refreshments.

Just 10 minutes drive away is the Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, where you can walk along the sea wall and out on to the marshes to enjoy floral and fauna. You can choose to walk out to Camber Castle, originally located on a shingle spit and where once, it protected the towns of Rye and Winchelsea, before the sea receded. Although no longer open to visitor's, it is still a striking land mark worth a visit. The award winning, blue flag beach of Camber Sands is just a short drive away and has miles of sandy beach and dunes to explore. Or visit the rock pools at low tide on the pebbly beach at Pett Level, just a 10 minute drive from Rye.

The Towns of Hastings and Ashford are around a thirty minute drive away and here you can get main line trains to London, if you wish to explore the capital for a day. If you would like to take a day trip to the continent , the Eurostar can be picked up from Ashford International station and trains to Paris, Lille and Brussels are available. Alternatively, the ferries run from Dover, just 45 minutes away or the Channel Tunnel from Folkestone, a 45 minute drive.

We enjoyed an extremely relaxing week at Coastal Tide, Camber Sands. Even with a toddler and new baby in tow we could walk across the beautiful dunes to the stunning beach in less than ten minutes. Ideal! The property was very clean and well equipped - everything we needed was provided and more. The light and airy nature of the property meant we were more than happy to spend quality time there. Our daughter was delighted by the dolls house in the twin room and the summer house in the garden. Would thoroughly recommend Coastal Tide for a lovely holiday.

When I arranged my family holiday (wife and two children 17 and 14) I searched for a house with close beach access and came up with Coastal Tide. I had never been to Camber and so didn't know what to expect but found the beach was fantastic, the children would have been happy playing there for the whole week, very safe sea bathing and well supervised by a team of Beach Rangers. Coastel Tide was perfect. The house was very clean and well equipped with everything. Apart from the beach, we did not have to travel more than 15 miles to reach a range of attractions ranging from medieval cellars to light railways, it was an ideal centre. We shall certainly return to Coastal Tide!
