About this property

Stay in this chocolate box cottage for four, with its exposed beams, inglenook fireplace and courtyard garden in a beautiful countryside setting, perfect for a relaxing holiday, while you explore East Sussex and Kent.

The property has recently been refurbished and finished to a very good standard, providing home comforts and those little extras that make your stay memorable.

You enter the property from the front, passing through the picket fenced front garden and gate to the porch. Straight into the hallway with doors leading to the lounge, kitchen and downstairs bathroom and stairs leading up to the two double bedrooms. The lounge is bright and airy and has comfy seating and soft furnishings creating a cosy cottage feel. A large, working inglenook fireplace, the perfect spot to settle in front of after a day exploring the 1066 country in the Autumn and Winter months. A large flat screen TV and DVD player for those evenings when you just want to chill. Between the lounge and the kitchen you have the family bathroom with bath, hand held shower, WC, shaver socket and basin.

A fully fitted kitchen, with double oven, dishwasher, microwave etc and Nespresso coffee machine (although you will need to bring your own pods for this). The kitchen is a mix of cottage kitchen with a fresh modern twist, making this a pleasant spot for breakfast or dinner at the dining table for four. A small utility area off the kitchen where you will find the washing machine and a door leading to the enclosed courtyard garden. Outside lighting, picnic bench and separate table and chairs, mean you can enjoy the pretty cottage garden during the day and the evening. A side gate leads out into the village.

Stairs lead up to the two double bedrooms, both light and airy, with a modern contemporary feel which is refreshing and relaxing.

A travel cot and high chair can be provided for guests with smaller children, please request at time of booking. The property is dog friendly, allowing one small dog to stay but the owners kindly ask that you keep your dog in the kitchen and access the house using the back door via the courtyard garden.

The property is located in the heart of the village on the A28. Both bedrooms have been fitted with secondary glazing to reduce road noise.

Parking is across the road outside the church or in the Red Lion pub car park.

Rye and beyond

Clare Cottage is in the heart of the village, with a very good local pub, The Red Lion, just a minute stroll away and the village church is across the road. Access to beautiful countryside footpaths are close by and the area is popular with walkers and cyclists.

A good start to your holiday is a visit to the Heritage Centre on the Quay, in the medieval town of Rye. Here you can watch the town model's ' Sound and Light' show, which goes into detail about the history and colourful past of Rye and its inhabitants. Upstairs is a vintage old penny pier museum, where you can play on the old arcade machines and discover a time before video games. Or amble around the many antique shops in the Strand Quay and hunt out a bargain or stop for tea and cake in one of the many tea rooms.

Rye Harbour Nature Reserve is a short drive away where you can walk along the sea wall and out on to the marshes to enjoy flora and fauna. You can choose to walk out to Camber Castle, originally located on a shingle spit and where once it protected the towns of Rye and Winchelsea, before the sea receded. Although no longer open to visitors, it is still a striking landmark worth a visit. Camber Sands is just 10 miles away and has miles of sandy beach and dunes to explore. Or visit the rock pools at low tide on the pebbly beach at Pett Level, or take a trip to the beach at Hastings and discover a traditional bucket and spade atmosphere.

The towns of Hastings and Ashford are around a twenty minute drive away and here you can get mainline trains to London if you wish to explore the capital for a day. If you would like to take a day trip to the continent, the Eurostar can be picked up from Ashford International station and trains to Paris, Lille and Bruges are available. Alternatively, the ferries run from Dover, just 50 minutes away or the Channel Tunnel from Folkestone, a 45 minute drive.
