About this property

Set in the South Downs near Lewes and next to the River Ouse, enjoy this beautifully designed holiday lodge for four.

Brooks Lodge was designed and built using sustainable materials and its use of sympathetic yet modern materials has earned it a Sussex Heritage Award. Positioned perfectly within the South Downs and enjoying beautiful views of the rural countryside, the accommodation offers everything you need for a relaxing retreat. The lodge is attached to the owners' residence yet offers private and extensive outside areas including a courtyard patio off the principal bedroom and a sunny terrace accessed through the bi-fold doors of the dining area.

The contemporary interiors are bright and airy offering expansive views of the surrounding area from the first floor living areas. Both ground floor bedrooms are spacious and elegantly furnished and present the option of either super kingsize or twin beds. There are two bathrooms for the lodge, one located on the ground floor, both are wet rooms with a walk-in shower and wc.

The lodge is positioned a stone's throw away from the Egrets Way, a safe network of cycle and walking routes within Ouse Valley, offering routes to Newhaven and Lewes.

Piddinghoe and beyond

Just step out of the door of the lodge and you will find a multitude of public footpaths and bridleways for a leisurely ramble towards the village of Piddinghoe with its direct access to the River Ouse offering rowing and sailing activities. You can also access the South Downs Way at the beautiful village of Southease to the North where, for intrepid walkers, you can continue a 9 mile walk over the Blackcap to Lewes where you can experience the superb views, particularly to the south and east.

Brooks Lodge is located just 5 miles south of the impressive county town of Lewes with its Norman Castle and medieval streets. Surrounded by chalk cliffs, Lewes is also home to the handsome townhouse of Anne of Cleves, fourth wife of Henry viii. There are also a host of contemporary art galleries, bookshops, boutiques and antique centres to explore. The River Ouse flows through the town dividing it into two areas between Cliffe High Street presented in beautiful period style with its gateway, a paved bridge, crossing the river and the main High Street that heads up the hill. Visiting Lewes on the first Saturday of the month is recommended when the thriving Farmers’ Market comes to town with lots of delicious fare on offer!

Newhaven and the coast is a mere 10 minutes drive away where you can find much to explore including the Newhaven Fort offering breathtaking panoramic views of the South Downs and Sussex coast. Within half an hour drive and you can be in the bustling and cosmopolitan coastal city of Brighton offering a wide variety of attractions including the Royal Pavilion, the Summer palace of the Prince Regent, and Brighton Pier along with 'The Lanes' which offer a shopper's paradise of independent shops and boutiques.
