    About this property

Explore Lewes dominated by the ruins of a great Norman castle, or spend a day in sunny Brighton.
Built to a good standard, these adjoining holiday cottages in the owners’ grounds are situated in the tiny village of Beddingham, which lies in the South Downs just off the Lewes to Eastbourne road (which although convenient, can be busy). The view to one side of the cottage is that of Mount Caburn, which is one of the highest landmarks in East Sussex and is the home of an Iron Age fort! Both cottages have wheelchair access to the ground floor rooms. Lewes, 2½ miles, is dominated by the ruins of a great Norman castle and boasts twisting medieval streets and tiny twittens. The port of Newhaven lies on the land with the shortest sea route between London and Paris and Seaford is a quiet, informal holiday resort from where Seaford Head, The Seven Sisters Country Park, Beachy Head and the village of Alfriston can all be visited. Glyndebourne and the outdoor opera, 2 miles. Drusillas Zoo Park, Charleston - the home of the artists Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant and rural bolt hole for the Bloomsbury group, Firle Place and Newhaven Fort are all a short drive. Eastbourne, 12 miles, Brighton 10 miles. Free coarse fishing 200 yards (rod licence required). Shop 1½ miles, pub 1 mile.
Ground floor: Living/dining room/kitchen with wooden floor. 1 double (5ft) bedroom. Shower room with toilet. First floor: 1 twin bedroom.
    Parking (2 cars).
Both properties: Electric central heating included (£30per week, £20 per short break November-March). Electricity, bed linen and towels included. Travel cot. High chair. Freeview TV. DVD. CD. Electric cooker. Microwave. Washer/dryer. Dishwasher. Wi-fi. Enclosed lawned garden and furniture. Barbecue. Fishing 200 yards (licence required). Welcome pack. No smoking.

"Perfect break and fantastic welcome pack I would highly recommend this cottage"

"The cottage was in a great location for what we wanted to do - seeing our son and family in Brighton etc (half-term). The underfloor heating in the bathroom was unexpected but very welcome. However, we did find that the heating system was either very hot or very cold - didn't seem to regulate at comfortable/medium. Only 4 plates and bowls, 1 tea towel and no serving dishes I thought was a little on the 'mean' side especially when trying to make a meal. ALSO, we had a masses of wasps which was quite worrying when our 4 year old grandson came to visit. Apparently, on speaking to the cleaner on the morning of departure the previous people had complained too but nothing seemed to have been done about them!! Advertised as having broadband but we couldn't pick up our e-mails etc which was quite frustrating as we were awaiting a couple of important ones."

"Jasmine Cottage provided an ideal location for exploring East Sussex as its proximity to main roads meant it was easy to access many attractions. The owners were welcoming and parking on the road wasn’t a problem as it is a no through road. The cottage is very compact and the twin room’s ceiling slopes significantly (ok for our young children but might be awkward for adults). Beds were solid but the mattresses quite soft and well used which combined with the heat and traffic noise made sleeping difficult. The garden was small and shady - but it did have a good seating and a bbq. As a family we would probably look for more space next time but would certainly consider a holiday in the same area."

"A good base for visiting and walking the eastern South Downs."

"I didn’t really have a best picture because there wasn’t anything to shout about sorry.. but would like to say thanks to the owner for looking after my dog for a few hours why I was out. I left him in the garden for few hours and he got out some how I don’t no but fair play to her for taking care of him."

    "Was a good week"

"Lovely small cottage - adjacent to A26 so quite noisy if you had the windows/door open. Good location for Eastbourne, South Downs Way walking."

"Was a very nice place to stay if there was only one negative it would be internet isn't very good in the area."

"The cottage was very dirtyEspecially the shower The towel rail didn’t get holdThe towels provided where to smallThe was a hole in the shower room wallThe cooker didn’t work properly The tv was very smallOver grown gardenThe are to many things for me to mention This is not a 4 star more like 2 star"

"This was our home for 5 weeks while we had flooding repairs on our home. The owner was very welcoming and helpful. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen was very well equipped. We were able to celebrate Christmas comfortably. Unfortunately there is no getting away from the proximity of the roads but we got used to it after a while. We discovered a wonderful place nearby to go for long walks with our dog, Southease. There were some lovely touches at the cottage including a good sized welcome pack and a lovely dog bed and feeding bowls for our dog. There are wonderful views from the cottage door !"
