… just under 3 miles from Winsford and 3 from Exford (PO/shop, pub, hotel), in the centre of the moor and well off the beaten track (last 1¾ miles via hardcore single track), a very comfortable and relaxed house converted from a large U-shaped barn. It is quite apart and private from three neighbouring farmhouses in the most wonderfully tranquil spot for nature watching (deer, badgers, buzzards), walking (footpaths crisscross the area) or just escaping modernity with only the occasional rambler or horse and rider passing by or farmer tending his sheep. You are welcome to wander and explore the owners’ surrounding land, observing the countryside code. Private enclosed courtyard (table/chairs).
Inside wood floors, good fabrics, original artwork and natural timber. Sliding glazed doors and 2 steps up to good-sized kitchen/dining room (dishwasher, microwave). Cupboard with washer-drier. Two steps down to huge living room with woodburner, TV/DVD and two pairs of sliding glazed doors to the courtyard. Second sitting room/playroom with TV/DVD, sofa, table football, table for jigsaws/games. Four bedrooms, two at each end of the house – from the playroom, a double (6’ bed) and a twin plus bathroom (suite plus hand-shower); from the kitchen, a step up and 5 down to a large twin, and another twin (no clothes-hanging space) under the eaves accessed via open tread steps; bathroom (suite plus hand-shower). Spring water. A wonderfully remote place to stay and explore Exmoor on foot.

"This barn is a jewel in the crown. The location is outstanding. 8 adults, a large dog and a 4 month old baby, the barn had oodles of room. The village of Dunster was a great favourite and the local pub in Windsford was excellent. If you want peace and quiet, lovely walks, and good food and drink this is the place to stay."

"Well what can I say about this beautiful place that hasn't already been said from fellow guests Everything you would want and need in a great spot is here the place was amazing lots of space in the big lounge and the log fire was lovely on a cold evening ,everything you needed in the kitchen was there for you ,the views from the place were breath taking Our party of 6 Friends ( ladies ) had an amazing time here with so many places to walk about and enjoy the wild life There is a lovely little pub in the Village of Winsford a few miles away that does lovely meals ( we had Sunday lunch ) very nice indeed We would love to return again some day in the future "

"Nethercote Byre was an idyllic setting for a relaxing holiday. There were beautiful walks and the view from the Barn was stunning. The Barn was very clean and well equipped and the wood burner was laid ready for us to light when we arrived. The local pub was welcoming and served good food. As the Barn was a good 10 minutes drive from the main road and the local village shop only opened in the mornings we were glad to have taken a good quantity of our own provisions with us. We recommend Nethercote Byre for a truly peaceful holiday in the heart of the beautiful Exmoor countryside."
