Two miles away is the pretty market town of Ellesmere with its mix of Victorian, Tudor and Georgian buildings. Located between the well-known Shropshire to Llangollen Canal and the Shropshire Meres, it's a great location to explore the area renowned as Shropshire’s Lakeland. Also nearby you can browse through the Colemere Nature Reserve whilst Old Oswestry Hill Fort, Whittington Castle and Park Hall are all places not to be missed. If you are feeling more energetic, enjoy a round of golf at the Brow Golf Course, take a flying lesson at Sleap Airfield or go clay pigeon shooting. Shropshire has so much to offer with a host of country houses and many countryside walks. The pretty market town of Ellesmere with its Tudor, Georgian and Victorian buildings quietly nestles between the Shropshire Meres and the well-known Shropshire to Llangollen canal, in an area renowned as Shopshire's Lakeland. Steeped in history and originally fortified as an Anglo-Saxon settlement, this peaceful town boasts a lovely church with a 15th century roof and was home to Thomas Telford during the building of the canal network in the late 18th century. The town also boasts a good variety of shops, pubs and restaurants, as well as an abundance of entertainment on and around the meres in the surrounding area.
