Cwmwr Uchaf is a detached farmhouse, originally built as a hunting lodge in 1625, retaining many original features and sitting in an elevated position surrounded by sheep-grazing farmland, overlooking hills, valley and stream. The property is not entirely secluded (a converted barn property stands nearby), but is peacefully located, 1.75 miles from the village of Penybontfawr, which has a village shop/PO and a pub. 

Ground Floor

Entrance Hall: A spacious entrance hall with original slate floor, wide staircase and antique furniture.

Sitting Room: with rug over slate floor, open fire in large stone fireplace, sofa, armchairs and easy chairs, piano and CD/MP3 player.

Farmhouse Kitchen: modern fully fitted kitchen with built-in electric oven, hob and extractor hood, microwave, washing machine, integrated dishwasher and fridge freezer; farmhouse kitchen table and chairs; open fire in original range, with sofa and two armchairs; painted dresser and kitchen table with antique scales, mincer etc. Original slate flooring, beamed ceiling and beamed inglenook fireplace.

Inner Hall: with bookcases.

Ground Floor Double Bedroom: double bed with antique cast iron bedstead, antique furnishings, bookcases, wooden flooring.

Shower Room: compact shower room with rose-head shower in large cubicle, WC, basin, shaver light and heated towel rail.

Bathroom: Victorian-style roll-top, claw-foot bath with hand-shower attachment, modern WC and basin, shaver light, heated towel rail and extractor fan.

Staircase: the original staircase is wide, carpeted, with low wooden banister to one side and rope handrail to the other, with low, deep stair treads.

Landing: a spacious area which serves as a playroom or spare bedroom, with sofabed, armchair, DVD player (no TV reception; bring your own films).

Master Bedroom: carpeted, with king size bed, antique chest of drawers and mirror, easy chairs and washbasin.

Double Bedroom: carpeted, with double bed, antique chest of drawers and mirror.

Bunk Bedroom: carpeted, with full sized bunk beds, antique chest of drawers, children's table and chairs, selection of children's books, toys and games.

Outside: is the great outdoors! Small grassed area (NOT enclosed) to front of the house with bench and picnic table; a small charcoal barbecue is stored in the adjacent shed, along with logs for the open fires (initial basket supplied, thereafter at £5 per bag). The farmhouse is surrounded by farmland, with a stream down in the valley and hill walking from the door, but dogs must be kept on leads as there are sheep grazing in the area. Please leave all gates as you find them.

Places to visit include Lake Vyrnwy with its Nature Reserve and rspb bird hides, the arts, music, creativity and eco-friendly centre at Llanfyllin Workhouse, the Iron Age Hill Fort at Oswestry, Powis Castle and the Welshpool-Llanfair Caereinion Railway at Welshpool, and Bala Lake, watersports and steam railway at Bala, on the edge of the Snowdonia National Park.
