    About this property

A romantic and beautifully renovated cottage complete with cosy wood burning stove and an Aga, New Inn Cottage is ideally situated in a peaceful village surrounded by the magnificent Shropshire Hills.

New Inn Cottage is a charming ‘one-up, one-down’ cottage which has been tastefully renovated to provide cosy and romantic accommodation for two guests. Situated in the magnificent surroundings of the Shropshire Hills, New Inn Cottage is nestled away far from any street lighting or main roads, which is a joy to behold when night falls and the stars litter the sky.
Inside, you are welcomed into a fabulous open-plan living area including the shaker style kitchen complete with four oven Aga with warming plate, Belfast ceramic sink, dishwasher and even a blender and coffee machine. The kitchen spills into the inviting sitting room area with its focal point stone inglenook fireplace housing the wood burning stove and comfy seating strategically placed to draw you, light the fire and relax. Nestled into the corner is a pretty dining area alcove from where you can enjoy the warmth and glow of the fire as you dine. Upstairs, the romantic galleried bedroom suite boasts character and charm with exposed beam work, comfy king-size bed and a contemporary shower room.
Wander into the generous, cottage garden, well stocked with mature shrubs and plants, and garden furniture to enjoy the warmer months.
The village of Cardington is a typical, quintessential English village centred around the 12th century church and adjacent pub. Approximately five miles away is the market town of Church Stretton where a selection of shops and other conveniences are located. Cardington is located within the Shropshire Hills, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Close by are the Carding Mill Valley and the Long Mynd and Wenlock Edge, both National Trust protected nature reserves, which have excellent walking opportunities, cycle routes and bridle paths with breath-taking views.

"A pretty cottage in a lovely village. Nice welcome hamper though the milk was well past its date. It was a bit dusty and cobwebby, as if it hadn’t been cleaned for a few weeks. As others mentioned in the visitor book the sofa is really uncomfortable."

"Very welcoming with the log burner lit before our arrival. Access very easy and a friendly village. We enjoyed amazing walks from the front door - the surrounding countryside is wonderful. We enjoyed meals in the village pub - when we could be persuaded to leave the Aga. Limitless hot water, a great shower and a comfortable bed. Blissfully rural - no street lights and the nights so quiet. Thank you for a wonderful stay."

"Beautifully renovated cottage in a stunning village I surrounded by the breathtaking Shropshire hills."

"The cottage was clean and we loved the upstairs. Not keen on Agas but wouldn’t mark anyone down for that. The welcome pack wasn’t as plentiful as some we’ve had, but ok. What we were unhappy about was being left biscuits that were already a month out of date. Also, there was very little information about eg walks, places to visit, the village pub, ie essential to book for food. Lovely village."

"Negatives: Downstairs would benefit from blinds to give privacy, sofa pretty uncomfortable, TV received no signal apart from BBC, windows not cleaned Positives: Well equipped kitchen, lovely bedroom area - spacious and lots of storage, well fitted modern shower room, lovely location"

"Beautifully presented and equipped cottage with an excellent welcome pack. Comfy bed with quality bed linen in a spacious, pretty bedroom. First class shower in a spotless shower room. The Aga cooker meant wet walking clothes dried quickly and cooked our porridge overnight. Big squashy sofa for sitting by woodburner or watching TV. The village is beautiful - visit the church, admire the various old cottages and buy fresh eggs from the roadside. Big advantage is being able to start walks from your front door.Villlage pub does meals and good ale and cider."

"Sweet little cottage with lots of character in a lovely, tranquil village. Parking only a short distance away. Lots of walking options from the village. Spectacular walks a short drive away - the Long Mynd and NT centre. Didn't try the pub but we would do if we stayed again. Nearby Church Stratton had supermarket etc."

"Nice decor. Very rural setting. Pics of outdoor seating were exact but broken. Very hot weather and the agar was on all the time making the cottage even warmer. The sofa was well past it's best making it uncomfortable. Very clean. Amenities good."

"The Rural Retreats site shows the 'symbol' that there is 'Parking On Site', this is not correct, you will need to park in the Village Hall Car Park which is down the road and is certainly not on site. Also the Rural Retreats site shows the symbol that there is no WiFi, however WiFi is available. The sofa in this cottage is very uncomfortable, suitable for dogs / cats only. It is very low and is 'sagging' therefore is difficult to get up out of for anyone with back or leg problems. The electric AGA is on all the time making very hot in the cottage, especially at night, but great in the Winter months, but not idea for the Summer months."

"Excellent facilities in beautiful rural location."

"We feel that future visitors should be aware that the bathroom does not have a door, just a curtain to pull across, so in effect it is part of the bedroom. Also it is likely that the owner will ask you to park in the village hall car park, thus parking nearby and not actually at the property."

"It was a beautiful cottage in a lovely location. Very well refurbished. I only have a few (slightly) negative comments. It's obvious that this is a new acquisition for Rural Retreats. The usual green folder was missing which meant we didn't have full instructions for things like how to deal with the rubbish and tips for local things to do, doctors etc. We would normally expect a couple of dishwasher tabs to see us through the first day. The cheese we were left was not in the fridge and had dried out. The cottage wasn't quite as clean as we are used to. There were plenty of cobwebs (windowsills and sofa), tablecloths weren't clean (dining and bedside), washing up liquid bottle was leaking everywhere; but these are all really small things. One of the outside chairs has seen better days and is worryingly wonky when you've had knee surgery. And the parking wasn't clear. There was a large 4x4 parked close to the cottage and we weren't sure where we were supposed to go. But overall it was fine and we had a lovely stay."
