About this property

Church Stretton 4 miles. This charming, stone-built, semi-detached cottage is set in the owner’s substantial gardens, surrounded by fields and woodland in the beautiful countryside of Cwm Head, a rural hamlet in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty four miles from Church Stretton. This delightful romantic retreat dates from 1820, and offers cosy, welcoming accommodation including a king-size double bedroom. The well-equipped kitchen is just the spot to rustle up a tasty meal, perhaps using fresh ingredients picked up at a local market or farm shop. The sitting room with dining area is bright and comfortable, perfect for relaxing after a day spent exploring this lovely part of Shropshire. Outside there is a large garden, perfect for exercising the dogs and enjoying a drink in the evening. Book worms will be delighted at the property’s literary connections - children's author Malcolm Saville sent his young family to live in the owner’s house during the war years of 1941-2 and he was inspired to write his 'Lone Pine' books using features of the lovely local landscape as his backdrop. This was featured on the BBC's Olympics edition of Countryfile in July 2012. Cwm Head, meaning ‘head of the valley’, is a peaceful hamlet nestling between Wenlock Edge and The Long Mynd, offering many lovely walks from the doorstep. If you prefer two wheels to two legs, there is a popular cycle hire centre with pub attached, just a mile and a half along the road. However you decide to discover the Shropshire countryside, why not reward yourself with a well-earned pub lunch at one of the two superb country inns in nearby Little Stretton? Or you can head into historic Ludlow, famed for its foodie delights including a popular Food and Drink Festival each September. Explore the cobbled streets and the castle, or picnic by the river. Other historic attractions in the area include Stokesay Castle, Acton Scott Working Farm (of TV’s ‘Victorian Farm’ fame), the timbered buildings of Shrewsbury, and of course the impressive bridge and ten fascinating museums of the Ironbridge World Heritage Site. With so much to see and do, you are sure to return to your welcoming cottage relaxed and recharged, and ready to do it all again the next day. Note: This property can be booked with Ref 925198, together they sleep 8 ( NOTE - Saturday changeover day )
