About this property

Church Stretton 0.5 miles. A charming detached cottage in a superb elevated position, half a mile from the popular village of Church Stretton, with its many pubs and tea rooms and excellent antiques centre. Furnished in a traditional style, the cottage offers cosy and comfortable accommodation with a pretty main bedroom with exposed beams and a cosy living area with exposed beams and lovely views over Church Stretton. The cottage is in a fantastic location at the foot of the Long Mynd, on a bridle path to Carding Mill Valley and boasts truly unique views, whilst being ideally placed for taking advantage of the superb walks the area is famous for. Less than half a mile from the amenities of Church Stretton and within easy touring distance of Shropshire's numerous attractions, Shepherds Cottage is an ideal base for a break in a wonderful location at any time of year.

Due to the alpine-like hills and valleys which surround the village, Church Stretton has been christened ‘Little Switzerland' and retains the feel of a spa town to this day, the natural springs providing Stretton mineral water. Nestling below the rugged beauty of Long Mynd, Church Stretton is the first town in Shropshire to achieve the ‘Walkers Welcome' status, also holding its own Walking Festival in June. Nearby, the National Trust operates a shuttle-bus service from the local railway station, offering the beauty of the panorama from the top of Long Mynd without the exertion! The hills are literally alive with the sound of music each year at the Church Stretton and South Shropshire Arts Festival which attracts musicians and artists from across the country.

Every window I'd walk pass I couldn't help but stop and stare out at the view. Fantastic having a National Trust centre 5 minutes away too, detailing the surrounding walks, with adjoining café. We enjoyed being in the living room, amazing views of course, but also cosy in the evenings snuggled up, with plenty of books/maps to choose from, plus a tv. Bedrooms were lovely, comfortable beds and nice linen, each room with storage and more glorious views! The bathroom was decorated to a high standard, and soft towels provided, which is always a nice touch. The only thing I would mention would be to provide a dog food/water bowl, I didn't think to bring ours for the dog (Unless there was one hiding somewhere that I didnt notice, apologies if so) We will definitely come and stay again, looking forward to it already!

Secure garden for the puppy was a bonus.

The cottage is a cute olde world, very warm and cosy great place to relax in. No traffic noise yet a 10 minute walk into Church Stretton for provisions via Rectory wood. Loved Vine and Co. They literally sell everything, the butchers, bakery and Thai restaurant. Mortimer forest from Black Pool carpark (free) is huge and its a nice walk into Ludlow afterwards. Ensure you have GPS or footpath app with live location as it's not very well signposted to find the trails. Small gripe, the oven trays and small frypan have burnt on grease and there was no brillo pad to remove it so I didn't use them and anyway it was an excuse to buy a cooked breakfast at the Hollybush cafe. I couldn't find a first aid kit for a plaster after lots of walking either
