Exton is a village set in the East Midlands county of Rutland. The Fox and Hounds public house overlooks the tree-planted green, offering cosy winter evenings around the fireplace and lazy summer days out in the beer garden. Oakham is the nearest town, boasting a combination of stone and thatched buildings, a range of shops, as well as pubs, bars and eateries to choose from. There is also a local history museum, a 12th century castle and a 14th century church. The Rutland Water Nature Reserve offers watersports, a small water adventure park, birdwatching, a sailing club and fishing opportunities, with the Rutland Water Golf Course overlooking the lake.

They are in a convenient position for meeting up with family and friends. The only problem we had with Egleton was there were no comfortable armchairs. My husband broke his hip last year and found it difficult to find anywhere comfortable to sit. Unfortunately, we had to leave the day before our leave date.

It was in a lovely secluded spot which provides a relaxing time which is exactly what we needed. Rutland water and Oakham are very close by so plenty of choice to do and there are lots of food options in the local area.

The area is lovely and the lodge was very nice. The only improvement I'd suggest is to have a fence around the property. We booked this as 'dog friendly' but the close proximity to the road, and the gate onto the road as well as to the other properties meant that we couldn't let the dogs out into the garden area and had to keep taking them to the 'paddock' whenever they needed toilet breaks.
